Swapping Brake Pads

Hey Everyone,

I have been thinking about something that I believe is bigly important...brake pads. I wanted to know if you guys have just kept your OEM Brake Pads, swapped them out for iSweep Pads, or another brand.

For those who swapped them out for other brands, can you please state the brand you went with?

I am leaning on possibly swapping them out because I would like to avoid brake dust (or great deal of brake dust) which is, supposedly, a lot with the OEM pads. I do not plan on tracking the car for for me it is more about brake dust and wanting to avoid cleaning tires all the time.

I swapped the OEM pads for the iSweep 2000. If you are looking for clean wheels, based on my experience, I would say: stay away!

This is my 250 miles of brake dust runing the iSweep 2000. Typically a 2 week period with combination of surface streets and freeways (sometimes stop and go).

It sure exactly what less initial bite means… just need to press harder or like legitimately does not have the same stopping distance?

Yeah, I am not sure. I am just going to have to rely on the reviews of the people on this forum and make a dectbased on that.

There is another brand that I saw people get. I think they are called “ECB” or something like that? They differentiate their pads by color? Like reds or yellows? Wish I remembered the name.

In all likelihood it depends on the driver. I switched to 1500 and don’t notice a difference (except dust).

To be fair I don’t track, race red light to red light, or push the car real hard. I’m probably easier on the car than many of the guys here.

Can’t comment on foul weather grip and/or stopping as this car is driven only in precipitation free conditions.

I don’t regret replacing the OEM pads.

Sounds similar to me… my G80 and soon to be G87 just get driven in fair weather on rural/suburban roads. Definitely some spirited driving but nothing that full on tests the limits of the car. As long as the 1500s are safe for street spirited driving, I’ll prob go with those for the G87

Go read the G80/G82 threads on the iSweep pads. There’s WAY more data in those threads than on the G87 side. They’ve got multiple folks who’ve owned both the 1500s and 2000s and have many miles with both. The consensus over there is the 2000s win by quite a bit, certainly on performance and they’re getting a lot more miles than some folks here seem to be getting between washes / wheel cleanings. One user posted wheel pics at 1,200mi on the 2000s and there was barely any dust. So not sure what’s going on here.

It is truly sad the lack of decent aftermarket pads available for the G8Xs. To be honest, who us/what is iSweep (sorry, just my opinion as they are used here cause people are seeking pads to produce less dust but who/what/where/when/how is this company and their pads to get this following)?

Unfortunately, I had thought Girodisc would have had theirs on the market by now.

No contributor here knows enough about every owner’s preferences and/or requirements to be the arbiter of what constitutes a “decent” aftermarket pad. As Paul Simon wrote, “one man’s ceiling is another man’s floor”.

My pads are, in fact, fine for me as it appears to dozens of other drivers who have swapped out their OEM with an option of their choice. A one ”decent” for all doesn’t and will never exist.

The variables are too many for even the wisest/most experienced among us.

PowerStop Z23 on my G42. So far so good.

Not sure if they offer a G87 compatible product.

Less grabby which I prefer. I don’t track.

I’m done with Powerstop pads. I’ve had them on multiple other cars and their performance just straight sucks. Barely any cold bite. Very little dust, but the bite is a joke. Went to EBC Yellows on both of those cars and it was night day. Their rotors are fine.
Glad you’re happy with them. No way I’ll ever buy them again.

Agreed...and I have used yellow stuff on a prior car and was equally unhappy. My vote is for Girodisc.

The people who say the iSweeps don't have the bite of the oem pads are probably the same that say the steering is numb. I've said in many other threads on the topic, I have 16k mi on the iSweep 1500 pads on our X3MC & now 10k mi with those pads on my M2. I've owned A LOT of vehicles and driven a lot more, there's virtually no difference in feel or performance between the iSweep 1500 & OEM pads during daily & spirited driving.

Normal for aftermarket pads to be slightly smaller and shift / click when transitioning forward / reverse / forward etc.?

I’m experiencing this with the PowerStop pads. Seems to be fronts only. Confirmed installed properly. Confirmed correct parts.

I’ve heard some say this is normal. The shop says they see this from time to time.
