M2 G87 Tracking

Hi All,

New member so apologies if in wrong forum or reposting an existing thread, I had a look on the homepage and couldn't see any tracking forums!

I've got a g87 m2 on order. It's order status is 165 at the port of altamira waiting to be transported to Bremerhaven. Anyone know how to find which ships actually transport the cars? I've seen a few other forums where they've managed to figure it out but no one actually shares the details on how to fins the ship except for them showing their specific cargo!

I found this but doesn't seem to be applicable to uk cars or 2024.

Congrats on your order!

Does BMW Genius work for car going to Germany? If so, call or email them and they’ll be able to tell you what ship you’re on.

Thanks speedy! Bmw genius does work to an extent but they keep giving contradicting information at the moment I've been told its waiting at the port of Altamira but no idea when it'll get on a boat, however even with that, the expected delivery date had gone from week 50 to week 48 in the last 4 days with no actual update on the cars status itself which I find confusing especially since on the few forums I've found for other g87 owners they have slightly longer dates. Or if they were at port it took around 2 months to deliver. So it's all a bit confusing. Hoping someone with better knowledge can help me out here. The wait and unknown is killing me.

Mstar456 until it actually gets on a boat, there is no real information. My car sat the port nearly for 4 week ("Ready for Transport") until it finally got a ship assigned. At that point, Genius was able to confirm the ship name. Typically the ship will be named "Glovis XXXXXXX", but not always. There are multiple car carrying ships but frequently BMW uses the Glovis ones for their shipments.

I was afraid this might be the case. I was hoping from what I saw from other Internet sleuths there might be some sneaky ways to figure out the shipping schedules. Oh well I'll just writhe in my first world pity. Thanks for letting me know! Hope yo hear from some other g87 owners too, sadly there aren't many uk meet ups or g87 owners as far as i know but seen some great spec ones in America and some naughty meetups. But oh well.

The shipping schedules are fairly easy.

BMW mostly uses Wallenius Wilhelmsen. You can access all the shipping schedules from there by departure port and arrival port. I was able to work out that there was a good chance mine was going to be on the Tonsberg by the schedule. Turns out the dealer confirmed that it was on the Tonsberg which is cruising across the Pacific at the moment. You can make an educated guess, but WW removed the ability to search by VIN a little while ago so the only way you can be sure is with a confirmation from your dealer / genius.

Glovis [ ] may just be a US thing - not sure.

Ah okay, are you uk based? I noticed you've swapped your m4 to an m2, will you not miss x drive?

Also i checked and they have no schedules for altamira port. See attached

Yup, I htink you're right that Glovis XXXXXX does mostly US deliveries but I'm not sure it's exclusive (sorry, I forgot OP was from the UK)

You need to check for Veracruz as well on ships scheduled to Bremerhaven. Seems like most or quite some cars en route to Bremerhaven leave from Veracruz. Check your VIN with Höegh tracking, you might be lucky and your car is scheduled or already being transported with them. Mine is on Höegh Manila and somewhere between Bermuda and the Acores. 🤪

https://m.hoegh.com/hoeghroro/#/cust.../customercargo

Otherwise there is no tracking possible without your ca or “Verkäufer”.

My delivery date has gone up from 48 to Week 50. Not had any luck tracking car even on the BMW app. It just shows delivery in progress (UK)
Last time i asked dealer it was on its way to port. Put vin in that shipping site suggested and nothing shows.

No based in Sydney Australia.

I really like the M4, but, I feel like it is time for a change. I have not had an M2 so wanted to give it a go. The M4 is a great car, but it is really quite big. Interested to see how it goes with a more darty M2. TBH I am not sure the xDrive is really needed down here given how good the weather is (generally). I think it makes sense in climates where the winters are extreme, but not so much here. And I am not the kind of guy who drags people off traffic lights so the 4wd is pretty much wasted on me.

Here is a schedule I was able to find for your car's possible journey. Hope its helpful.

Hey thanks for your reply!

The car is sat at the port of Altamira so I can't imagine it then going to veracruz to bremerhaven? As bmw genius states its going to go from port of altamira to bremerhaven. I used that site and they can't find my shipment which I assume is because it hasn't been loaded yet. Glad yours is already en route though! Hope to see pictured and reviews soon.

Yeah the bmw app isn't really great for tracking. It's nice to see the CG images of your car and stuff but other than that it doesn't do much. It definitely has more functionality than adds tracking so there's that.

If you want better updates then your dealer go to bmw.uks website click the chat icon in the bottom right and speak to rep, give them your vin and ask for a status update. They'll do some data protection checks and give you the exact production code of the vehicle as well as its relative location.

Tracking it past that is what I'm trying to achieve atm. Also in regards to yours being moved from week 48 to 50 is exactly what confuses me. As mine went from 50 to 48? When did you place your order? I signed the docs on 1st Sept but paid the deposit on 2nd and was told the order was placed on the 3rd of Sept.

Ah fair enough, for me it's the thrill of the launch control from x drive. My brother has an xdrive g80, although his is now mapped to just shy of 730bhp but the launch is just phenomenal and it's repeatable where as due to the m2 only sending Power to the rear wheels launch control has to cool down for about 10 mins before being used again.

Either way I hope to hear your thoughts on what the change is like!

I really appreciate you going through the effort to find that schedule but that's veracruz not altamira? I can't imagine them taking it from port of altamira to port of veracurz then to bremerhaven? Also from bremerhaven it would have to go to then come to England and then the dealer. But the the veracruz shipment lands in bremerhaven on the 30th of Nov (30/11/2024) which would contradict the delivery schedule of w/c nov 25th? Since that's when they expect it to actually arrive at the dealer.

I ordered end of August. Contacted live chat on BMW app status 165
Expected delivery December 8th /14th. Why do UK cars go to Germany first and how long are they there for any ideas ?

Ah right so in your case the dates come back then? As that wouldn't be week 50, more like week 45/46?

I believe they go to the bremerhaven factory for quality checks and then final port in England for delivery. I have no idea how long these stops are though that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out. I'm also at 165 due on week 48. W/c 25th Nov.

Ah that's really strange. Yeah I'm not putting a lot of stock on their estimations then, since I ordered a few days later than you I imagine we're in similar boats. The dealer was adamant it would come early December and he was also suggesting it's highly likely to come late november. So it's difficult to see who to believe. I guess we just have to wait and see what the outcome is.

Nice to know what boat its on though, did that with my mustang in 2015. Could get good info then from the US. This is my first BMW. I was going to order the new Dark Horse mustang but gave up being messed about. Once i drove the M2 though that sealed it.

I'm religiously speaking to bmw twice a day haha once in the morning and once before lines close at 10pm. Since mexico is 8 hours behind. But I haven't had any updates since the 12th of October. If I can manage to get the boat ID when it's finally at sea I'll definitely update you.

I haven't heard of the dark horse mustang before just looked it up and imho it looks mega, definitely prefer the aesthetic of that to the m2 but I think the bmw is a bit more driver focused and engaging. Then again I'm just guessing from what I've read in the last 2 minutes. A 500hp naturally aspirated V8 sounds incredibly appealing though.
