To be fair, you told the dealer you already had another car and you may walk from the M2 if you didn’t think it was better. Why would the dealer hold the car for a “maybe” from you if they can close the deal with another buyer?

Not sure what state you are in, but in CA, the deposit is refundable until you sign for the car.

My dealer and many others have a 72-hour window to take delivery and that's even with them having my full down payment.

I personally think it's weird to order a car and wait to drive it to see if you're going to actually buy it. In that case just find a local one to test drive before going through the hassle. There's no way it won't knock your socks off especially coming from a BRZ.

You told them too much, I would've left it at "I'll be back Nov. 5 to pick up the car". The second you expressed possible disinterest, their tone changed. I guess if it's still there when you get back and you drive it and like it you can buy it?

What does your order paperwork say? Is the order a customer sold order or is a retail stock order? No offense, but telling them you have a BRZ (not really something I'd brag about) & you'll see if you're impressed by the M2 didn't do you any favors.

Maybe if you didn't come off like a complete tool, they'd be more inclined to hold the vehicle for you. I've had no issues with dealers hold vehicles for me several times when I've ordered them, but I've not acted like the example posted in the OP. Good luck.

That's understandable, however, my critique of the car come delivery day will be of its condition. As for what the G87 is, I was sold on it when I placed my order and I've never seen/driven one. With BMW, you just know what you're going to get and they've never disappointed me.

I had a M2 with bucket seats in February with a 1k down..

I can't imagine talking to someone else like that lol you come off like quite an ass but I find it hard to believe its legal for them to take your deposit considering they cant give you a date when the car comes until like 3 days before. Takes 3+ months to build it and you have to be available in the 3 day window they randomly give you?

Why anyone would mention they may walk away if it’s not impressive? That just killed any power they had. There’s absolutely no reason to mention that. If I’m the dealer I would be pissed, and I would want to sell the car under OP.

How are you getting screwed? Where did they say they wouldn’t refund your deposit? What was the agreement when you put the deposit down?

A lot of unknowns, but I haven't seen any evidence of you getting screwed yet.

Also, it isn’t your car, it is theirs to do with and sell to whoever they wish.

You own a BRZ and call this forum toxic. I’ve hung out on the BRZ forums and they suck. Bunch of flat-billed toxic children. They’re tied with the Supra forums for garbage posts and people.

Your initial post & title was disingenuious. The dealer didn't email you to tell you they may sell it prior to your return. They emailed you to let you know the car is expected to arrive next week. You, in turn, tried to act like a hotshot with your reply about your BRZ & that " if the car doesn't impress you, [I]you[I] will let them sell it to the general public. That is acting like a tool.

I like Subarus, bought my daughter an Impreza for college & helped my brother-in-law buy a Crosstrek for his first new car purchase. But acting as if your '24 BRZ is anywhere near comparable to an M2 is hilarious. That's not me being a BMW snob either, it's just fact. I've owned 43 different vehicles, of all makes & models. My BMWs were #s 41, 42 & 43, so I'm not a BMW leg-humper by any stretch.

I'd bet dollars to donuts, you definitely don't have the means to buy every M vehicle on their lot, or again, you wouldn't be bragging about having a BRZ to a BMW salesman.
