Amber DRL's

Attended a German car meet 2 weeks ago and noticed a couple of M cars sporting amber DRL's. Excuse the question if it has been asked previously, but have any forum members fitted the amber DRL's to their cars and are there any supplier recommendations?

I guess the other question is regarding the voiding of warranty should you fit the amber lighting, is this a perceived or actual problem?

Thanks in advance.

The only way you're going to maintain the warrant on your headlights is if your dealer is willing to order the OEM CS/CSL replacement parts and install them for you, and you'd need a good dealer for that.

You're going to create a flame war over your request for recommendations.

I had IND DRLs on my car.

People will come in here and say $300 is a rip off and send you links to Alibaba or eBay. Their argument is sound in that you could theoretically replace them multiple times before you hit $300 cost of the IND version, which is true.

But I don't want them to burn out, I don't want to have to swap them, so I paid more.

Is it a guarantee the cheaper ones will burn out? No, absolutely not. Is it a guarantee you won't have an issue with the IND version for $300? Not at all. But the delta between the two over the likelihood of a problem, to me, is so significant that I'm willing to pay that premium.

I hope I've illustrated both sides of this debate and given my opinion in such a way that the flame war doesn't start.

Pretty much says it all - if you want to read over a contentious thread on this topic, check mine out:

That said, I bought my yellow DRL modules from EAS. Regardless of their source, I've been running them for 8 months without a single issue. YMMV of course, but they seem to be a quality product.

Soon! The ship it's on will be in Philly in a few hours, then the next stop is here in NY.. Really hoping it goes through the VPC quickly, but I checked almost every box for M Performance accessories. That'll probably add some time unfortunately. Next weekend would be ideal!

I've seen multiple G87s with amber DRLs where one light is out. I didn't ask where they got the modules so I have no idea if there truly is a difference between the ones they resell at trusted sites or eBay. For me, I don't think it's worth the hassle of spending money to buy some cheap electronic part that from what I can tell is prone to failure. I don't know if its the part or the install, maybe when the G87CS comes out and has amber DRLs, you can retrofit that module instead?

I'd recommend searching/obtaining the BMW part number for the modules & ordering them yourself if you want original BMW.

I found these part numbers online but do not know if they are for the amber modules. Hopefully someone with parts catalog access can tell us. Each part # below appears to be $137.

The DRL retrofit currently popular are yellow, not amber. There is a big difference. And, yes, pay more and get quality boards that will last, JMO.

Agree...went with IND modules and paid the $300 which was insignificant for the price of the car and also with respect to other upgrades. Figures also what is it worth in terms of time and quality IF I had to do a reinstallation to replace a failed board/module. 40min job and pretty easy but not one I want to keep doing every couple of months so for me was worth it to go with a very reputable vendor to alleviate any problems.
