Iconic sounds

Iconic sounds only adds fake sounds trhough the speakers or does it change something of the exhaust? Do you guys turned it on or off?

How should changing the exhaust and installing a downpipe affect the Iconic Sounds?

It makes burbles and allows the exhaust to open up more in sport mode. But the fake sound is usually overpowering

Source: I coded fake sounds off and have a valve controller to test the different modes and noises the car makes

If you code ASD off but turn iconic sounds on does it still change the other stuff while leaving the fake sound off?

I do not beliece iconic sound changes what the engine does, only the pumping in of sound through the audio system.

I have only noticed reduction in cab noise. When outside, the car sounds the same (In comfort more). Therefore, don't think it changes anything else.

In the sports modes, iconic sounds on/off will open/close the exhaust valve

Iconic sounds has artificial noise and noticeably more pops/burbles. If you have ASD coded off and iconic sounds disabled, it is quite obvious when the engine is warmed up and you let off after accelerations.

So youre saying BMW modifies how much pops and burbles are produced based on your ASD/iconic sounds coding? By pops and burbles this means from outside of the car, not what comes into the cabin.

When you mechanically open exhaust flaps to 100% and remove the breaker on the G82 M4, it does way more real pops/burbles on the outside with active sound on. Tested it. Seems to also be the case with the G42 however I can't really confirm as there is not that much of a difference when you have the exhaust flap always open.

What is “the breaker “?

ASD no, iconic sounds yes. ASD is solely the fake noise coming through your speakers. ASD will be disabled if you turn off iconic sounds, but iconic sounds will also give the pure exhaust noise some more pops and burbles, as well as having a more aggressive valve "tuning" (tends to open up more in sport).

I have ASD coded off and a valve controller, so when I turn off iconic sounds but force the valves fully open with the controller, I can tell the exhaust sounds more plain. Some people may like that, but for me I thought something was broken (I didn't realize I accidentally flipped iconic sounds off lol)

I turned iconic sounds on today, and I could definitely hear the difference in the actual exhaust. I had iconic sounds off for the previous 140 miles.

My aftermarket exhaust is not installed yet.

It makes sense that the exhaust flaps being open causes more noises to be produced from the exhaust. I dont think that ASD/iconic modifies anything else from a tune/engine perspective to make more noises. Does iconic/ASD affect exhaust flaps? Maybe, but thats probably it.

Yes but when the exhaust flap is forced to be open at all times, there's still a difference in pops/burbles when you turn on ASD. I have a few videos of it, maybe I can find them.

Iconic adds burbles to the exhaust note. On the actual exhaust.

I heard burbles for the first time ever from my car today, windows down. Had iconic sounds turned off since first startup.

I have my fuse pulled so my flaps are opened 100% at all times.

If it does make a difference based on codings for ASD/iconic then sign me up. Is this supported on ID7 G42’s? What do I need to code?

What I am looking to better understand is this:
"Yes but when the exhaust flap is forced to be open at all times, there's still a difference in pops/burbles when you turn on ASD. I have a few videos of it, maybe I can find them."

Unlikely, but does something change in the tune to produce more sound? I'd like to see some evidence.
