Post G87 M2 M xDrive production dates confirmed. Production begins August 2026

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
G87 M2 M xDrive will have a three year production run from August 2026 through July 2029.

Just like the upcoming M2 CS it will only be offered with an automatic transmission likely due to the power output being more than BMW is willing to warranty with the manual transmission.

Perfect timing for me to get out of my 240 near the end of the run. Thanks for posting.

Cool but I mean they could develop a new manual. Wtf BMW?

XDrive manual would have a high take rate and you could charge us more!!

The real question is when dealers will start getting their allocation numbers. Not sure if there is even a line yet at dealers.

Tell me about it bro - I’d kill for a 6MT xDrive S58. Kinda sad they didn’t even consider developing one but I guess it’s fate was sealed when the G80 didn’t come with it

Manual and RWD for me. It’s the entire point of the M2…goes out back to beat dead horse again.

BMW used to do XDrive Manuals. All it needs is a beefier clutch. How hard can that be? I already have two other AWD Manual vehicles and I do like the RWD Manual but something about an XDrive Manual, all season traction makes me wish it was an option.

I wonder if there will still be a RWD version with the MT or if they will all be xdrive autos. As great as the RWD is in the summer, it is not ideal in the winter here in the northeast. I was really struggling last year with mine. Even with Alpine 5s. I would give up my RWD MT up for one.

This doesn't answer the big question many of us have: Will they continue to make RWD 6MT until the end of the production run or might the M2 go xDrive only?

TBD, but remember there were also rumors that BMW would kill off the base model G80/2 w/MT when the LCI came out but that did not happen.

I used to have a 335 manual x drive coupe.
From engineering stand point is definitely doable, are they going to do it or not is a different story.

If the GTR had a manual option, I would definitely gotten one and before they became $100k for a 5 year old used one lol.

I think the only one left is the Carrera 4 GTS . Used to have more choices …R8, Gallardo, 911 Turbo

I think it’s more difficult now that their Xdrive systems allow for changing between 4wd and Rwd. Probably complicates the clutch system. I don’t know of any other manuals that also allow you to change between 4wd and RWD. Hence why they stopped manuals when the F90 came out. Could be wrong though

I'm sure they did the financial business case as developing a new manual would be too costly for the return on investment. Either take the AWD with the automatic or don't buy it.

They restarted with a nice recipe with the F87 series and now it’s becoming like any other car.
