Car won’t lock when touching door handle sensor?

I touch the ribbed area on the door handle, but nothing happens. Only way I can lock the car is either via key fob or have setting for “lock when walking away”. Is there a setting I’ve accidentally activated or is it a repair issue?

Do you have your hand under the handle when touching the ribbed area? One my G22 (previous car), the lock feature only worked when I had my hand around the handle.

I've just been out to check my '23 G87. I have the "lock when walk away" and "open when approach" turned off. The car opens when I have the key in my pocket and I put my hand on the handle, fingers under. Then I can lock the car with a touch of the ribbed area, however, this only works once after opening. Each subsequent attempt won't lock the car, but I can hear the "clicks" from the locking mechanism.

Hmmm. I’ve never tried locking by having my hand touching underneath the handle (like opening it) and touching the lock sensor at the same time.

My usual routine is: arrive at location, close door and touch sensor with hand, but I don’t hear any clicking and it doesn’t lock (with keys in pocket). The only way I can lock the car is by either having the “lock when walking away” setting on, using my bmw app or clicking the button on the fob.

Car is at dealer for break-in service. I asked them to look into the sensor thing. Will report back.

To be fair I've never used the locking feature of the handle, 100% always use the key fob to lock before I put it back in the faraday pouch.

Sounds like a warranty issue to me. I recently noticed that mine doesn't lock when touching that ribbed area on the outside of the handle when I have winter gloves on. It always works when the gloves are off though.

Yup. Dealer said I had a defective handle sensor. Waiting for part to come in so they can replace it.
