Thank you for this! My car is still in Mexico, trying to get all of the stuff I need for it prior to delivery.

Honestly I prefer to use the appropriate to your device cigarette lighter USB fast charger. The USB C port is not capable of performing any kind of fast charging if I recall correctly.

Speaking of charging through cigarette lighter, will using the cigarette lighter for a battery tender work? Quick look at owners manual says they do not recommend plugging battery chargers in the lighter socket, but is a battery tender’s output low enough to be safe? I have used the lighter port for battery tender in a prior-owned Porsche with no issues.

Forget charging a phone, you need to have a radar detector powered through the cig lighter so you can really get on it.

I have a Google Pixel 8 Pro, and when I use the USB-C port under the armrest, my phone does say "Charging Rapidly" while using it.

Also, there is an additional USB-A port by the cup holders. Haven't tried using that port yet in my '25 M2.

The positive is disconnected when the car goes to sleep.

The lighter is only how when the car is awake. It's been like that for more than a decade with BMWs.

Connect either under the hood or wherever the battery is.

Just wanted to add the 12V car charging port, at least in the 6MT version I own, generally means you can't close the lid of that area if you have a charger + cable plugged in. May depend on the form factor of what you're trying to do though. What I did was get a magsafe wireless vent mount that uses USB-C and ran the cord into the USB-C port in the armrest console.
