Reliable power additions

Just curious as I have been scrolling through threads is there a certain threshold to adhere too to gain more power reliably and not have to touch internals?

The car is great as it is but like most I always want more. I am bored this winter with some expendable income and would like to safely mod my G87 and try and get the most I can out of it with minimal risk. I also don't really care about the warranty either. I'm open to any and all opinions and options to give the car some more power.

Currently I only have cosmetic mods and a full valvetronic exhaust (also not to worried about having the change that if that gets more power either)

Best bang for your buck will be a piggy back like JB4 etc. A better first step might be some seat time with a pro instructor to better maximize your ability to use the power the car already has.

Agreed. A tune of any kind will be the best bang for your buck when it comes to horsepower gains.

Agreed. Best first step is track time with an instructor to learn to use some of what the car can do without any mods at all.

He wants more power, not to be a professional driver... omg

I would not recommend jb4, it's cheap and easy to use, yes, but many tuners have told me that reliability will be low, it's not the best for taking care of your car, and it could cause problems in the long term.

My recommendation is to do a custom stage 1, but keep in mind that you'll need to send the ECU to Finland (around 1000 euros) to unlock it. Contact a good workshop and ask.

Another option is to wait before doing the remap and spend the money on a downpipe with some sensors to avoid failures. The car will sound amazing, and you'll gain some power (that's what I did with my m240). If you have extra money, get a new intake filter as well, and you'll gain even more power and sound.

+1 and well said.

The BMC drop in filter is best bang for the buck (need to make sure to remove the charcoal filters).

To add to the above, you will need downpipes (the M2 has two downpipes vs the M240 which has one). The Active Autoworks and Fabspeed guarantee no CELs but the are pricey. If you are doing a custom tune, the tuner can eliminate the CEL (I have the Evolution Racewerks downpipes and they are great...my tuner cleared the CEL and no issues).

If you need assistance with a shop, send me a PM with your City as I may be able to help.

You hit the nail on the head, I have done two track days at the local track by me with BMW already with my car and went to their track in South Carolina where I drove the M2 there as well.

Like I stated before the car is great and fun but I want more out of it. I do not daily the car mostly some nights and weekends and want to have some more.

Sending the DME out is not an issue either and what I have been reading that seems to be the best option. From there I was curious on other support mods that are necessary? or should I just put faith in a local shop?

I live in ten minutes out of NYC so if anyone knows anyone around here that would be a huge help to go to them instead of asking for hopes and dreams on forums

I think my plan is to get AA Downpipes, midpipe, maybe catback front mount intakes, probably wheels and tires and some more exterior carbon while my balls continue to grow enough to ship out my ECU for Femto unlock and a stage 2 tune. 600 whp with minimal mods is pretty insane. 700+ whp with some E and Port injection is even more insane. wish they could unlock these stateside.

If you have a manual, will also need clutch and probably drag radials with all the extra power.

If I paid for Stage 2 build/tune but only got 600whp, I would demand a refund.

You also dont need a PI setup (partial or full) to get over 700whp on a Stage 2 build/tune.

So I recently did the Femto unlock and bootmod3 OTS tune. I added catless downpipes and flex fuel sensor so I can do a stage 2 with some level of E mix. I haven't messed with ethanol yet. Let me tell ya..... gobs of power!
I tried to get some before and after times comparing stage 1 to stage 2 using launch control but the stock PS4S (I didn't have my track tires on) couldn't handle it and I would get sideways pretty quick.

So here is my empirical data:

Stock:
Racechip:
Stage 1:
Stage 2:
