I remember it well, I was working with the Public Order Unit that night. Big crowds and lots of concern that amounted to a big nothing burger. Probably the quietest New Years Eve I ever worked.

I was "on call" for Navy, I think they even gave me a pager.

Well, what if the satellites fail and the pager doesn't work because I'm drunk?
