which tires would you pick?

OK Fellas,

I know I do not even have my car, so I am def getting ahead of myself in regards to new tires. Once I go through my stock ones, I plan on getting 285 fronts and 305 rears and putting them on aftermarket wheels. I was set on Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss but then also found Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02s. Have any of you guys experienced both of these tires? Which would you choose? Please note that the Michelins are about $150 more for a set.

Tire Rack tested those 2 tires and 4 others on a 2024 M2, will give you a professional reviewer's point of view (there's a video in one of the tabs at the top):

PS4S or if you want more grip (but will sacrifice a little tire life and wet weather traction), Cup 2s. If you are going to remain stock power-wise, might as well stick with PS4S.

I've had good experience with Continental tires on several vehicles, including my supercharged Z06 (600 whp). I had a set of Conti Extreme Contact Sport on that car as well as Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I felt the Contis handled as well or maybe a touch better than the Michelins, were quieter, and lasted longer.

I know neither are the specific tires you're comparing, however, my experience between the two brands with comparable category/specs of tires has been that Continental is as good as Michelin & tend to last longer. I've never had a Michelin tire last anywhere close to their claimed treadwear warranty, current Pilot Sport 4S included (getting replaced tomorrow at 18k mi).

Between the the two you mention, I'd go with the Conti

No tire thread is complete without Z06 info despite the M2 being an entirely different car.

YMMV

Both rear wheel drive, high power output, both come with Michelin max performance summer tires as OE in 19F & 20R sizes. :

You can't go wrong with either. So just go with whichever one you can get a better deal on

Different suspensions, steering assemblies, differentials, gear ratios. They are totally different rides.

Z06 is a nice car but the pomposity, arrogance, and braggadocio of their owners in irrelevant threads is clearly unnecessary.

IMO

i just replaced my OEM's with DWS06's and they are great. I don't need all seasons in Miami but I opt for the extra life over a little more traction, at least for my everyday driving it makes zero difference but twice the treadlife

I just swapped from the oem ps4s to EC Sport 02s. Keep in mind they are single compound where ps4s are multi, the sidewall also has subtle differences. Definitely less road noise on the EC. Should get better tread life as well. At speed she feels way more planted, less shimmy, and much better turn in feel after the swap. But that's also the width change from 275 to 285 and the 285 to 305 on top of the sidewall and compound differences.

I will also say with TC level 3 in sport+ my back end is more planted than before, spinning less, but that's also a brand new tire vs some wear. But I had similar observations on my last Mustang that came with ps4s oem as well when swapping the tires.

Thanks for the write up on the ECs. I appreciate it!

I will not be too terribly bothered with either PS4S or Yoko Advan V107s.
I hope for the PS4s. I have 19x10 wheels all around and will be buying 285/35 or 295/35(may rub) tires. Wonder if there is a star tire from either Yoko or Mich in those sizes....

I just replaced with the same tires yesterday. I'm 90%+ sustained higher-speed interstate driving, so better treadwear matters to me, especially when I have multiple vehicles that always seem to need tires at the same time. Replacing the rear MPAS4 on my wife's X3MC that lasted a whole 16k mi. I did receive a $200 credit due to the early wear (22.5k warranty from Michelin).

The rear OE michelins on my M2 were at 2/32nds & fronts at 4/32nds after 18k mi. Only issue with the Contis so far is I'm rubbing the fronts on the fender liner vents when reversing & turning - I have 15mm spacers. Didn't rub with the Michelins (maybe because the tread was 1/2 worn already when I installed the thicker spacers?) Stock ride height.

Check out the R44 fender liner clearance kit. It's under $200 and it gave me plenty of clearance to swap to Conti EC Sport 02 285s in front with 0 rub and more than enough room where the oem 275 ps4s barely had ~3mm of clearance.

I saw those. How are the installed? Do you have to cut out the old ones first and then instal the R44s in its place?

You have to screw them in? They feel secure with just screws?

Where are you finding the R44 liner kit under $200? I’m seeing them for about $900.

There are plenty of vendors that have them to my knowledge. This is one, Extreme Power House:

The $900 ones are the whole new liner…not just the vented area.
