Delivery 2025 M2 - "Replace Battery"
Looking for advice. I took delivery of my car after PPF a little over a week from initial pickup at BMW Fairfax. When I programmed the car with BMW Genius at delivery there were no error messages. It started right up and drove home fine, but the error message stayed. I hooked it up overnight to a CTEK but the error message persists.. It still started fine thus AM. Currently charging again. Any thoughts? Help? Snow storm coming and at least it is home in the garage. Is the battery just a regular car battery in the G87 M2, or is it some light weight Li battery or something? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It appears that '23 and '24 are AGM batteries, but perhaps '25 is different. |

The battery in the M2 is AGM, not Li-ion. This sort of thing happens at shops when people working on the car leave the doors/trunk open. You can go for a long drive and then put it back on the tender to speed up the charging. If the errors don't clear bring it to the dealer to have a look.

I hope that I don’t have to do the same but I will check with the service department on Monday and see if I have to bring it in. It starts up fine and it drove back from PPF without any problems and that was about a 60 minute drive up to highway speeds. Thank you for your reply.

The CTEK Multi US 7002 charges AGM batteries.

Here is a picture of the battery. I couldn’t find anything out in particular when I put in the numbers in a search or Clarios. I’m guessing it is an AGM battery?

Interestingly that part number brings up a different part on search with some sites, but it does match the 92Ah indicated on your battery and would confirm the AGM:

Thank you for the follow up. I am going to call the service dept tomorrow and see if their is a way to eliminate the error message. It starts and runs perfectly and charges to full and holds the charge without the CTEK showing an error or fault. Hopefully it just had an error message when it was close to being drained on the BMW and the battery is actually fine.

I agree with you that it's likely just an error message that doesn't clear by itself. It might even be able to be cleared with an ODB port error code reader, perhaps some of our more knowledgeable members might know this. |

So this device says 'New battery registration' for example:
https://www.bimmerworld.com/Tools/Fa...-for-BMWs.html Sort of what I had in mind. Hopefully the dealer will simply do it for you as a courtesy. |

The bracket in your picture is blocking the section that says AGM. You can see it in this picture on the right side of the battery. |

CTEK is junk - and battery tender isn't much better
Get an Optimate - you will thank me later, I've tried all of them over about 20 years I keep an Optimate6 hooked up on my M2 at all times when it's resting in the garage, which is most weekdays. They are the BEST |
