chilling in the car with engine off but DRL always stay on?

Are the DRL lights supposed to stay on almost indefinitely in this scenario?

(1) come to a stop in airport parking lot

(2) engine off, window open, audio off, I drive screen off

(3) door never opened and me sitting inside doing stuff on my laptop(not connected to car)

After 2 hours of waiting, my friend finally arrived. Before she opened the door and got in, got in, she asked me if I knew my DRL lights were on. That was when I looked at the reflection on the car parked across from me. My DRL light were probably on the whole time that I sat ther(2+ hours)

I was able to replicate this in my garage. Is this normal? The DRL light do go off if I open and close the door, then sit in the car.

I wonder if it uses the seat sensors to signal there is still an occupant in the car? For emergency services perhaps? I would place 100lbs in the passenger seat and repeat with you yourself getting out of the car and closing the door and locking it........or maybe just the open window did it....

I’m pretty sure they turn off like everything else in about 15 minutes. Because when I pick up my daughter from soccer practice and wait in the parking lot. My cars radio, dash and screen stay on for about 15 minutes until my car fully shuts down. I have to hit the power button to get the radio back on. As far as I can tell, the DRL turn off when that happens too.
