What did you discover about your G87 today?

When I’m in D2 and tap to manual, it defaults to S3 instead of keeping it in S2. Also, compared to my 2022 G82, S3 is much more aggressive! The G82 S3 tune shifted smoother.

Each mode will remember the last setting.

Next time you go from D2 to manual mode. Change it from S3 to S2 and it will stay that way in S2 next time you move from d2 to manual mode.

You can disable the useless wireless charging by simply pulling the fuse (my service guy did it for me today).

Ahh that makes sense. This is exactly why I like threads like this. You learn something everyday.

On my 2022 G82 if you didn't get the wireless charger, the LED ambient lighting didn't extend into the cubby area. Instead it was an old school bulb that looked yellowish at all times and didn't look that great.

Although I didn't find any info if this idiosyncrasy extended to the LCI G87 interior, I optioned it anyway just in case. Besides, it doesn't hurt to have an extra charger and the price is negligible.

Not as far as I can tell. But thats not an issue for me as I always use the physical key.

We don’t get an option with the wireless charging in Aus - it is standard.

Yes. You can use the credit card key included in your manual or add your iPhone. Both of which you have to place in the tray to start the car.

I rather just keep the key in my pocket. If the charger worked I’d use that though

On my '25 G87 LCI, I can confirm the LED ambient lighting still extends into the cubby area if you don't option the wireless charging. When I was first on the hunt for an M2, the wireless charging option was one of the options at the top of my list. Glad I quickly gave up on it being important.

Good to know they didn't cheap out on this (but cheaped out elsewhere lol)

I learned that bimmercode does have a few options you can tweak if you have ID8.5.

I changed the interior to my liking and was able to set the top and bottom colors seperatly. Meaning two different colors.

I was also able to disable window interupt if you are rolling up the window and open the door. By default it will stop the window if you open the door. I always hated that. I like to start them rolling up, open my door and get out. Not wait for them to go fully up before I open my door.

There is no way to know what heat level setting your seat is on without accessing the climate settings via the screen - annoying.

My wife discovered the M1 paddle returning from the gym this morning.
Said she’s not interested in M2.

One thing I have noticed between iDrive 7.5 and 8.5 is that redundancy with the iDrive controller is not 100%. Previously, every action is accesible without touching the screen, even if there is a bit of scrolling involved. I much prefer this.

Here is a list of things that can only be controlled by touching the screen I have found so far:
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Heated Seats
  • Fan Speed
  • Temperature? (Honestly haven't tried this yet)

I hate this entire philosophy. Fine, get rid of the buttons, but please let us access everything without touching the screen.

Not sure what iDrive iteration is in our 2024 but heated wheel control is on the wheel.
Regarding others you listed, all can be voice controlled (at least in our car).
YMMV
