Accident for this hybrid is it totaled?
Attachment 3637927Hi,
Car was hit by a pick up truck on the passenger side and trunk. Waiting on insurance to determine if it is a total loss? Some of the airbags did deploy. Thanks |

I hope that all of the occupants are all right.
From what I’ve been told, when airbags activate, the likelihood of the vehicle being totaled is high. Best wishes.

Air bags being deployed signifies a pretty big hit. Maybe not totaled and it can of course be fixed, but the cost will be high for the insurance company. Really depends on the value of the car, mileage, etc.. depreciation, etc.. Sorry to see this. It looks to be significant damage, but |

I would very surprised if it’s not totaled. That’s a lot of quarter panel to cut off and replace and then add in the airbags.

Hope everyone is ok. Totaled? Maybe. Maybe not. WAG is yeah, but my guess doesn't count. My standard advice is seek out the *best* auto body repair shop and get the car in to be appraised of its damage. My experience is before the shop can look over the vehicle the at fault driver's insurance adjuster has to look over the vehicle and put together a damage estimate. The body shop's subsequent estimate will be higher and more accurate because the body shop will partially disassemble the car and can get a better look and a deeper look at the extent of the damage. |

I've had three....maybe four significant collisions in three different cars. One was with an old 2006 Ford Focus ZX3. First collision in that car was a head on with another car with an idiot driver paying more attention to her phone than driving. She crossed the double yellow and hit me head on. We were both going about 30 MPH. Significant front end damage but the car was repaired correctly but no air bag deployment. Second front end collision with this car was with a very large deer. Hit it pretty hard and launched it off to the side of my direction of travel. Another significant front end damage situation but no air bag deployment. At that point, insurance decided to total the car due to the current value of the car in relation to the cost of repairs.
Next car is my 2013 135i. Hit a deer head on which caused some pretty decent front end damage. Fortunately no frame issues and no air bag deployment. The maybe is my 2019 C-HR. Another deer hit with that to the front corner of that car. decent body damage but no air bag deployment. I say all of the above as it seems there has to be a significant impact situation before air bags deploy. I know it sucks but if it were me, I hope the car gets totaled. Because chances are the car won't ever be the same after repairs. Don't know if the rear end will align correctly and the car tracks straight. Don't know if there will be future structural issues and water penetration problems. |

More photos would be helpful, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's deemed a total loss. I work in the insurance industry BTW on the APD side. There is a TON of misinformation out there on these forums when it comes to crash repair/insurance claims, so be careful with some of what you'll read. Good luck.
