Help me decide on which summer setup to get. I currently have the stock silver wheels and am using them with a set of Michelin All-season for winter purposes. For the upcoming spring/summer/fall I'd like to mount a new set that I can switch between going forward. I track the car maybe 2-3 times a year. So not a big factor. But looking for opinions on brand, fitment, looks, issues etc. Also, would like to know if running a 305 wide tire on 11x20 wheel will work and not rub or if I should go down to 295.

I've narrowed it down to 3 wheels in 20x10 and 20x11 configurations.

• Apex VS-5RS

LT3's all day.

The HRE's spoke is tied together at the bottom and makes the spokes look like a flower pedal to me.

The Apex's just look too rounded to me. Id use those for track reasons vs daily driver reasons based on the looks.

Another brand you might look into is BSPK forged. They make some gorgeous wheels and are much cheaper than the LT3's. Plus you can use the OEM center caps with those if you like.

I believe they recently became a forum sponser here too. They appear to be a solid wheel based on the many reviews Ive seen on them. They are very well known on the alfa forums.

I ran a 315 on an 11" wheel slammed on MP HAS and there was only slight rubbing on the lower part of the rear inner fender liner. After a few miles it self clearanced. I could have raised the car, but chose not to.

Apex VS5-RS wheels can click. I have video on my YouTube page and there are threads on here expanding on this. Not sure if this sizing will do it, but it's so annoying I sold the wheels and will never buy another set of VS5-RS, or Apex wheels for that matter.

I love HRE, but there is a video of a guy on YouTube who was tracking his mustang with these exact wheels, and the heat from the breaks softened the metal so much that the wheels bent and HRE refused to replace them. It's a pretty comprehensive video, he puts them on a balancer and showed how bent they became. For that reason, I wouldn't buy HRE flow formed wheels.

No experience or insight to the other brand, but I've seen them in person and they look great!

Would you say the Edelweiss and HRE should not be used on track?

My track days are in the novice run group. I don't push the car 100% and the run time is only about 20mins. I was hoping something like the Edelweiss would do the trick for the looks and the lightweight aspect.

This is great to hear. I have MP HAS as well and would like to go with as much rubber as possible. 305s sound like should be good to go. Edelweiss said they have not mounted 305s on the 20x11 wheel but would do it at my own risk. (They just can't guarantee that it won't rub).

I run 305/30/20 in the rear on 20x11+8 VT Foged SLAs, MP HAS max drop with 0 rub. 285/35/19 on 19x10 +11 in front with 0 rub but the only reason can get away with that tire is opted for the R44 fender liner clearance kit. On the oem 275 front only had like ~3mm clearance so the 285 would not have worked.

FYI, "Flow Formed" are indeed cast wheels.

I think you would be fine tracking a car with cast wheels, I mean, hell, the stock 930M wheel is cast and the car performs fine.

The Apex wheels will be stronger and lighter than the other two. Again, it may not matter at all.

My personal preference is if buying a performance wheel for a performance car, I'm buying something that is strong and light.

The 20” Edelweiss wheel is just over 20lbs. That’s really not bad.

It should have nothing to do with performance. If buying aftermarket rims, one should get forged, period. Not only are they lighter but the are stronger.

That’s correct…same with the HREs you pictured. The forged HREs are the cost of a kidney.

Slightly biased but the VTForged SL-A.3 SuperLite is the only way to go! We can do them without the spoke hollow as well if you prefer without it.

First off, thanks to those who mentioned me ( Ronin76 BIGW0RM ) . I am a new Bimmerpost Vendor and will be doing more with that shortly.

Back on topic:

Probably biased as well but, objectively, anything I make will be less expensive than anything mentioned in this thread, fully forged, better engineered (I challenge you to get on the phone with any other wheel company and talk shop about the various testing methodologies and FEA nuances the way you can with me ), and just generally better overall quality / value.

Chiara is a popular choice for the G87 but I have dozens of styles.

You can absolutely run 305 btw. I am a performance first guy though so would probably recommend an 11.5" rear if you want to run a 305. You want the car to handle well on track after all; putting too wide a tire on a wheel is one of the worst mistakes people make for responsiveness/on-track performance.



The ZB car on Brushed Aluminum Chiara has a 305 rear btw with no rubbing.

Also, giphlag I see you are in MA. I am based right outside Boston. If you've ever been to a MassG8x meet, Bedford C&C, or Larz event you've probably seen dozens of my wheels. I am happy to provide some local guys who will happily meet up with you so you can see the product in person (I tend to have a lot of really satisfied customers who are happy to do me a favor - says a lot about my business tbh )

Never been to a MassG8x, or Bedford C&C, but plenty of Larz Anderson events. So I've probably seen your stuff. I'm in Milton if that helps.
