M2 button defaults to manual shift?

SOLVED! THANKS GUYS.

Apologies if this has been previously discussed. I searched and didn’t see the exact question. I also skimmed the owner's manual without success.

I finally have my M2 home and have a small issue.

The car defaults to manual shift mode when I engage my M2 button. This caused me to bounce off the rev limiter today. It was brief and I realized my mistake quickly and manually up-shifted. I doubt it caused any damage. Just not sure why it defaults to manual shift.

I have my M2 button set up as follows:
Engine: Sport Plus
Trans: Sport Plus
suspension: Sport
Steering: Sport
Brakes: Sport
M traction level 5

Is there another setting I am missing to get M2 to default to auto shift?

Also, I assume the default start up configuration can't be customized (ie starting with engine in efficient but steering and brakes in sport etc)? I know it can't default to M1 or M2 mode.

Thanks in advance.

i believe you may have put the Drivelogic / Gearbox in S1/2/3 (S being sequential). Try sticking it in D1/2/3 and it should auto upshift/downshift.

Is this a setting in the M button set up?

I know how to use the gear selector to go from D to S.

I was just noting that it defaults to sequential when i engage my M2 button.

Yes you set the transmission settings to either or both M buttons. My M1 is set to D2 & M2 to D3.

Was just tinkering in the car and realized I had set the trans to S3 instead of D3. Did the settings real quick with the genius at the dealer and didn't realize my mistake.

Thanks for the guidance guys. I am sure this is just one of many stupid questions I will have.

There are some good YouTube videos about setting up your M buttons. Just make sure you are looking at ones with the iD8 or iD8.5.
