i don't know if that is stock motor or not, but it really isn't that fast compared to other cars like the cayenne. it looks really nice, but that's about the only category i think it wins in.

the supercharged version of the rover has performance that's about the same as the Cayenne S (and the Porsche is cheaper) |

i dont know how you can think that the Cayenne S is 30k cheaper than the RRS SC. I priced them out and for you to get all the things that come standard on the RRS your Cayenne would be more expensive.
And i think the Cayenne S is in line w/ the RRS HSE whereas the Cayanne Turbo S would be inline w/ the SC RRS. But here's a screen shot of what you would have to buy in the Porsche that is standard on the RRS. Plus, if you EVER want to go offroading, there is simply no match for the LR cars... Dont try this w/ a Cayenne they're crawling on 20's I have a RRS right now and looking to sell it shortly once the 330 arrives. Last edited by foofighter; 06-05-2006 at 12:24 AM.. |

with all due respect foo, you're crazy
the cayenne S starts in the high 50's and performance on road is about the same as the supercharged rover. The Cayenne turbo is more expensive than the supercharged rover, but it's also about 1.5 seconds faster to 60 That range rover's not exactly sitting on off road rubber too, I'm quite sure the Cayenne could be just fine on the same terrain |

the Cayenne Fully Fully Loaded is about 100,000. My girlfriend and i sat in one at the dealer where i got mine. They also had a GT but u couldnt touch it. The truck has literally everything including seude headlining. I did hear that The Cayenne S Turbo is faster than the Range Superchanged version.

i maybe a little biased but i really doubt that the Cayenne got that type of offroading pedigree/prowess...otherwise you would have Porsche exploiting it in their media campaign.
Pricing wise i think the RRS nonSC is slotted in between the price point of Cayenne. oops this is foofighter posted under his wife's acct

the supercharged version of the rover is just barely faster than the cayene S (not the turbo) and to foo, I've seen plenty of ads in car mags for the porshe driving experience courses with cayenne's all stickered up and off roading hard nobody's going to question the rover's off road prowess, but on road it would appear it's at a performance defecit to the Cayenne porsche even has an off road school http://www.porschedriving.com/ |

Well, I must interject, the Range Rover is a POS, especially compared to the Cayenne. Lemme explain why:
1) The RR Sport is based on the Disco frame, not the real range frame. 2) Drivetrain is Jaguar and as we all know Jaguar = crap and crap = Ford. 3) I highly encourage you all to download, legally or illegally, the Top Gear episode where they do a mountain climb in the Cayenne Turbo S, all I can say after seeing that video is WOW. The cayenne is one of the best offroad vehicles in the world believe it or not. Though, it is the half-brother of the Touraeg, which we all know is a superb offroad machine. 4) Interior. The inside of the RR Sport looks like lego building blocks, not refined in the slightest. I hope that helps sum up much of the points here. |

I had a new 2003 Range Rover HSE (yes before the Ford buyout) and that car was awesome in every regard. Yes I only refer to the this as the real Range Rover... They had the BMW engines through 2005 I believe. Even with today's Jaguar-based supercharged drivetrain my 03 used the BMW 740 engine, transmission, etc. In fact everything including the pedals were sourced from BMW... the nav, seats (I had the Oxford edition with the Comfort Seats, leather dash) etc. All in all an awesome car. Now looking at the current generation Range Rover HSE I see that they've included Ford/Jaguar componentry... Time will tell to determine if it's as solid as the BMW-sourced Range Rovers. Either way I don't know of any reason why one couldn't be happy with either Cayenne S/Turbo or Range Rover HSE. They are truly at the top of their respective markets in terms of pedigree.

i like the look of the RRS, but its not that fast compared to other competitors
yah Land Rover r more experts with 4wd cars than porsche, but i have seen a porsche going in sand dunes & it can handle itself pretty well there...

Funny fact: Roundel magazine picked the RRS over the BMW X5 in a recent comparison test!
Overall, it depends what you are looking for. The RRS and the Cayenne are more street machine than real SUV. Althought the RRS does come with Terrain Response and adjustable air suspension as standard equipment, so it can get the job done. Regarding the Cayenne, Car and Driver stuck one in the mud during a review, and had to get a pickup truck to tow it out! Best suited for on road use. Most people who buy these cars don’t ever go off road, maybe some trail roads but nothing like the pic you posted Foo.
Looks wise the range takes the cake. |
