My 2025 M2 LCI journal

Hey all, this is mostly for me to keep a journal of my M2. I've seen some great builds here and on IG, which are absolutely incredible, but they are definitely beyond my budget! This will be my humble OEM+ build with a moderate budget for a family accommodating daily driver dad mobile and occasional track days.

I'm coming from a 2022 G82 M4 Competition X-Drive. My 2025 G87 M2 was ordered in October 10, 2024. It arrived in December 23, 2024, two days before Christmas! I removed all aftermaret modifications from the M4 and sold it. Luckily, the following parts are still compatible with the G87:
  • KW HAS
  • Millay Camber Plates
  • Tires - Cup2 Connect
  • Spacers (12mm X 2, 15mm X 4)

Edit: additions to this list I have discovered since this posting:
  • KUDA phone mount
  • LED Door Projectors

The plan so far:
  1. Enjoy the car in stock form until after break-in.
  2. Break-in Service
  3. Install the G82 parts
  4. Get a trunk spoiler, because the OEM one is tiny.
  5. Midpipe - My PSI Midpipe from the G82 is incompatible, so I need to research a new one.
  6. Corner Balance and track alignment
  7. Attend first track day - Factory brake pads and tires to determine a baseline and compare to my first track day in the G82.
  8. Mount the Cup2s
  9. Brake pads, SRF
  10. Attend first Time Attack
  11. Attend at least one track day or time attack a month

Nothing too crazy.

Quick Links:
01/08/2025 - Center Console Organizer
01/12/2025 - Kuda Phone Mount
01/13/2025 - LED Door Projectors
01/23/2025 - KW HAS, Millway Motorsport Uniball Camber Plates, , 15mm Spacers, SPL Bump Steer Adjustable Tie Rod Ends, Unit17 OEM++ Spoiler
01/25/2025 - Street and Track adjustable corner balance and alignment.
01/30/2024 - Break in service done!
02/18/2025 - Milltek - 102mm Single Non-Resonated Midpipe
03/15/2025 - Turner Motorsport Carbon Fiber Front Lip
10/01/2025 - Front Grill Inserts
10/14/2025 - Nankang CR-S
2025/11/03 - Ohlins R&T DFV Coilovers and Endless ME-20 installed

The first thing I did was take some photos, then stuck it in the garage for a week while we left for a vacation!

01/03/2025 - First canyon run

I headed up the Angeles Crest for one of my favorite drives in the area. This was to see if I made the right decision trading my G82 M4 for the M2. Conclusion: I made the right decision. After tracking all 3 of my previous M cars, I came to the conclusion that I am never going to be the fastest driver on the track. So instead of trying to be the fastest, I'm just going to try and have the most fun. The M2 fits the bill with a shorter wheelbase and more nimble characteristics.

I miss the small cubby the F80 and G82 had on the lower left footwell. It was perfect for sunglasses in keeping them scratch free. The Jaronz Compatible Center Console Organizer for $16 solved that problem. Sunglasses on top, all the rest of the stuff on bottom. Plus it looks OEM and has a cutout for the USB-C port!

I have this in both M vehicles. Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference

This guy is nice too as it fits my fob that I don't like to keep in my pocket. Plus I don't forget it because it's in eyesight vs putting it in the cup holder or center console. I think I paid $10 for it.

Yep. My wife's X3MC has a slot for the fob next to the wireless charging pad, not sure why they couldn't add that to this car

01/12/2025 - Kuda Phone Mount

I discovered that the G82 and the G87 share either the exact same dashboard and center console components, or are so close that the phone mount from my M4 is compatible. This one is from KUDA, which is a brand I've been using since my F30. It mounts to the passenger side of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Accommodates almost any cradle including those with built-in Magsafe charging.
  • It doesn't block any vents.
  • It doesn't block any buttons.
  • It doesn't prohibit the use of the cup holders.
  • You can open/close the cup holder lid.
  • It is track legal hard mounted. (Magnetic mounts alone are not allowed)
  • It is within arms reach.
  • Does not interfere with the glove box.
  • Can be uninstalled with no visible trace.
  • The "leather" matches close enough.

Cons:
  • It protrudes very very slightly into the passenger area.
  • It is hard to get in the USA.

I considered the Rennline, but I do not like how it interferes with the use of the cup holder. Also, it is not track legal since it is only a magnetic mount.

The KUDA mount is available on ebay but international shipping is expensive. They used to have a US distributor, but they have closed shop. This mount is compatible with the G20 and G80, G82, G87.

I do not remember where I got the cradle, but I do like that it "grabs" my phone automatically when it senses it on the magsafe charger. The blue light looks nice at night too.

Great shots. I’m in Pasadena and up at the crack of dawn. Hit me up if you want. Maybe GVBC on a Friday.

Thanks! Did the CA2 reopen yet? Hopefully I can go to GVBC after a much needed alignment.

Thanks! The magsafe cradle charges wirelessly. I used a flat usb cord tucked in on the left of the mount and run it between the gap of the carbon fiber cup lid. It plugged into the accessory plug in front of the cup holders in the center console with an adapter. I might try and run it to the center console but it's out of the way enough.

I like the mount. I’ve been using pro clip for all my cars but this looks like it’s part of the car.

I've used Proclip in several of my cars! They have good stuff. I think my cradle is actually from Proclip too.

Congrats! I wish that were my garage, but it’s actually the paddock at Auto Club Speedway. I was there for an SCCA TNIA and showed up early, so I took some pics while I had the paddock to myself. Sadly, it’s since been closed and demolished.

Thanks! At one point I was an aspiring photographer with dreams of being the next Larry Chen, but I don't have that kind of skill or patience, so I'll settle for a nice compliment once and awhile.

LED Projectors installed! +500hp!

Don’t pay full price for these. Getbmwparts has these for $108 and most dealers will match that at the parts counter.

01/08/2025 - Center Console Organizer

I miss the small cubby the F80 and G82 had on the lower left footwell. It was perfect for sunglasses in keeping them scratch free. The Jaronz Compatible Center Console Organizer for $16 solved that problem. Sunglasses on top, all the rest of the stuff on bottom. Plus it looks OEM and has a cutout for the USB-C port!

This look perfect! Exactly what I didn't know I needed, but now I know, I need it...!
Just to confirm, I've seen the UK Amazon version, and it states it fits the G20/21/22/80/82, is the G87 centre console exactly the same dimensions?

Thanks in advance.
