BMW M3 EV (ZA0) - Episode 3 - Controlling the Beast (BMW M Video)

Power is nothing without control.

1000 hp in a car is a lot of fun, especially when going for 0-100 but what about when that first corner comes bearing down on you? You need the precision, agility and controllability that you find in our most advanced race cars.

Yes, this thing is going be the new benchmark.

Notice how he has his finger over the shift paddle at the end. Kinda confirms the rumors of a simulated engine with transmission, similar to the Ioniq 5N.
Really excited for this one.

And it definitely seems like they’ll be adding in the simulated engine sounds as well based on the last couple of seconds of audio at the end. I agree, this will likely end up being the new benchmark for a performance EV.

Like beyond plaid performance ? Absolutely 0 chance. There is a near 0% chance it exceeds current m3 performance , maybe slightly in straight line perf with no way it beats it on track.

In before all the “M car can’t be an EV” bickering.

This is coming regardless and while we still might be years out before EV M’s are full staples in the line up like current M cars, everyone has to reset their expectations of what this car is and should be. This is not going to be an E30, E36, E46, E9X, F8X, G8X. It’s not going to be G9X.

But you consider what BMW has done with the i4, iX and now with the i5 and M5 - the culmination of all the R&D in those models, there is zero doubt that whatever this model is, it’s going to be good. The only way this car isn’t good is if you’re stuck on the “it’s not a proper M car” argument in relation to ICE M cars.

Why simulate what we already have? I hate that we are being forced into an EV future. I’m sure this thing will dessimate any analog BMW M… but there is something soulful, authentic, emotional, nostalgic, etc with a mechanically engineered combustion engine with analog components. How are folks who have bought M cars in the past and have a deep connection to the way they used to be coping with this new future?

You have to remember that it's the world's governments putting stricter and stricter regulations on the car companies. I'd much rather BMW tries their best given the circumstances than not develop this at all. And who's to say that they won't offer the next M3 in both EV and ICE configurations.

Also, kudos to them for bringing us along with this video series. It shows that they care about input and you can bet that they pay close attention to feedback from customers.

Another M for Marketing video

They try and build this narrative that an EV M3 will blow everyone’s mind, but there’s nothing ground breaking behind it

It will provide the same experience of an e-tron or Taycan turbo, which absolutely isnt a bad metric, but meh

Current EVs are all one single uninspiring formula, extremely fast, instant torque, but generally heavy and not really agile at all

As an appliance they have a purpose and they’re great, but as an enthusiast vehicle, it’s more likely that the scene will die than EVs becoming it’s heart and soul

...only the above of what you stated is needed!

I for one don't believe a single BMW before it will hit 0-100,...0-1/8 mile,...0-1/4 mile,...and possible 0-1/2 mile faster then the Full BEV M3 (FBVM3)!

Pretty simply actually… You can still buy/own whatever old car you want. So do that, and park them next to your new toys if you like those too

Lots of simulation with this one. Simulated engine sound simulated gear changes now is the time for simulated steering feedback mated with simulated road feel. It’ll be one hell of a simulation this 🤣

The current drivetrain tested has 1MW (1360hp) of power.
While the upcoming M3 won't have the full potential of the drivetrain, some upperclass cars will. But you're right, the M3 won't have Plaid straight line performance.
But the Plaid can't really do anything else than drive in a straight line.

Sceptisism is good, i also am a bit. But I'm also excited for this. It will be faster than G8x M3. It's not something that's impossible.

I'd rather not have simulated anything. You can get down with a blow up doll too. It doesn't get an attitude, doesn't get old, doesn't complain...but I appreciate the nuances and intricacies of a real human woman. If the blow up doll floats your boat, then have at it.
