Will I regret it
I ordered a new G87 manual, should be around in a month...and I'm having second thoughts.
I'm not a track guy, this car will be driven spiritedly around town, highways, etc. Will I enjoy it in this capacity? To give a bit more background, I had a G80 manual which didn't really do it for me, so I quickly sold it after buying. And now a year later, I have the M car itch again. I'm thinking the smaller chassis in the M2 will be more exciting, yet relatively comfortable with the vastly upgraded interior from the F87 generation. At the same time, I'm reflecting on how much fun my F80 was with that low end torque curve which had me strongly considering an F87CS. What do you guys think? New G87 manual, F87CS, or something else like an E46 or E90? |

the g87 interior is no way in hell vasty upgraded over the f87 interior and I've had an f87c and an f87cs. i'd say its equal to or less than, in the quality department. the g87 has better suspension dynamics and is a better daily and easier to drift around in for a novice. the seats were also more comfortable in the f8x, besides the lack of lumbar support. the s58 is the better engine.

I went from a manual F82 to manual G87. F series is hard to compare to G. F series was a little less digital feeling and more squirrely. G feels smoother and more refined which could be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for. For the record, the G87 still feels like it's trying to kill you sometimes but I think less frequently than the F chassis did.
As far as torque is concerned, the G87 feels like an absolute freight train especially with the fewer gears of the 6MT, makes me laugh every time I really get on it. In the end I upgraded to a G87 for the benefits of having a new car & full warranty, 0 regrets so far. Last edited by ednir98; 02-14-2025 at 02:41 PM.. |

I was worried about the shifting feel coming from a miata to this and I don't understand why it gets so much hate other than everyone just jumping on the bandwagon. Car feels incredible, absolute blast to drive and yeah the shifter is different and could be improved slightly but in no means a bad shifter. There's some easy fixes for it as well so it shouldn't even be an issue.

Is this your main car? The F87CS is not very comfortable to daily. If it's not a daily, an E46 is something you could keep forever. There's an absolutely gorgeous Laguna Seca (best color by far) E46 on bringatrailer right now.

Could you elaborate on what you didn't enjoy about the G80 manual?

dated depending on who you ask. the only benefit to the g87 screen over the f8X dash are very visible shift lights and very clear tpms. both have mostly plastic interior bits including the whole dashboard, but the f87cs has that awesome merino leather seating. |

Let me share something with you as an owner of a manual m2 (for about a year):
Are you going to enjoy a manual powerful m2 or not is totally dependents on your mood! If you have had a crappy day at work, tired and you just want to get home, well you are not gonna enjoy it. But, if you’re done with your work out, took your shower and dressed up for a fantastic day ahead, nothing gonna replace a manual M car! (You can fishtail that car even in third gear!) |
