AA Catted Downpipe Question

Alright I'm new to the car game. I want to protect my warranty at all costs but I also want to have some fun with my car. Can anybody explain me the basics and anything I should know? Can I change it back to stock everytime I bring it in to bmw with no problems? Will codes pop up? Do I need to get them cleared? And also is it fine to run a a catted AA down pipe with no tune? Or will I fuck my car up?

that would take pages, read the forums you will gain a lot of knowledge and answer all your questions and more

Can I change it back to stock everytime I bring it in to bmw with no problems?
sure but changing downpipes takes hours

Will codes pop up?
not with the active downpipe

And also is it fine to run a a catted AA down pipe with no tune?
tune is not needed with these downpipes

I would say the best "mod" for the $$ is the "driver mod". Take the money you would spend on these mods and enroll in a performance driving course. These cars, in stock form, provide more power than one can realistically use on the street to begin with. Learning how to drive it closer to its capabilities will address the "I want to have some fun with my car" goal.

Exhaust mods (and intake mods) without a lot of accompanying mods are essentially worthless from a power increase standpoint. They make the car louder, but really nothing else. These catted downpipes are crazy expensive for no noticeable power gain & the risk of negatively impacting your warranty.

All that said, I've been modifying my cars for 30 years & have intake, x-pipe, and axle-back exhaust on my car. Intakes on my wife's X3MC & aftermarket exhaust on my supercharged Z06. But I know they don't any performance, just sound, and am happy wasting my $$

Driver Mod is a great idea if new to performance cars or even just this platform.

If you want your warranty, don't touch the cats. Go mid-pipe / axle back only for your exhaust. No codes running either of these and will get you a more aggressive sound, if that's the fun you are looking for.

JABCAT - Long time friend of mine has a Carbon Edition Z06 in Inferno Orange that is fully built by Lingenfelter. His is #76....

If you want to "protect your warranty" putting a downpipe on is the worst possible thing you could do.

Eventually I will increase power on this car, but honestly its wayyyy fast enough to get into trouble on public roads in stock form.

Please share more details on this. Who had their warranty denied because of downpipes? I haven’t seen a single case like that out of the hundreds of thousands of tuned cars running them.

What you’re saying also doesn’t add up, downpipes don’t put extra stress on stock components. If anything, they reduce backpressure on the turbo, which actually helps with reliability.

How could it be possible that modifying the emissions control system voids your powertrain warranty? is this a serious statement?

Maybe you can answer your own question, I don't need to tell you that modifying the emissions system is considered modifying the engine.

Although I doubt there are many stupid enough to try to get warranty support with just a downpipe on the car since most would have a tune as well.

Emissions and warranty aren’t directly related, modifying an emissions component doesn’t automatically mean your BMW warranty is gone. do you have any actual cases where a BMW warranty was voided specifically because of a downpipe?

There’s also 20 years of forum history to look at. If this is really happening, there should be plenty of examples. If not, what are you basing this on? Do you have any data or is this just your opinion?

It’s an honest question, if you have proof, I’d like to see it. If it’s just an opinion, that’s totally fine, but it’s important to clarify that. I just haven’t seen any real-world cases to support this claim.
