Question Auxiliary Power Adapter for E90

I have a question regarding the BMW Accessory "Auxiliary Power Adapter"

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687

Page 23, Item D

Is this just like an additional 12v ciggarette lighter type adapter? Or is it like a regular power outlet?

Remmber it is VERY limited in the amperage you may draw from it, so is not quite like a extra ciggerette socket

Thanks I am not interested in another ciggarette lighter, I was hoping it was a regular outlet that was inverted.

I didn't think so but I was hopeful.....

I ordered it because we use a lot of electronic toys, like laptops and digital cameras. I can see it being used to charge camera batteries. It's not clear how long the cord is, but it could be long enough to make things easier to connect. For $8 .......

If I hate it, I'll let you all know.

Whoops, maybe I WILL hate it.

Do you think it will be strong enough for a laptop? I'd think the battery charging should be OK?

Always wondered how does the glove compartment close with the cord dangling out? Is there a small gap on the side?

I'm pretty sure you can order from your local BMW dealership, but if you really can't find any European dealers willing to ship to Denmark, give Tischer a try, pm Jason or Evan at Tischer, they'll take care of you

Will that adapter (I have one from my E46) work in a 2008 E90? I seem to recall reading that the flashlight outlet that this adapter plugs into was removed from the 08 models. True?

I heard that the 2008 models don't have the flashlight port in the glovebox, Chunga. Maybe in Denmark it's different, though.

I don't think it was removed, I think some >08 owners were reporting that BMW had removed the flashlight from the socket, I think the socket still exists. But that's from what I could recall, I could be 100% wrong here

If you have the socket, it's the same as the e46. A few people have reported no flashlight or socket in their 2008's.

3A @ 12V is a whopping 36 watts... that's well under most laptop power supplies. My random anecdote is that the auto adapter for my middling 15" compaq (6910p) work laptop is 90 watts, and the macbook adapter is 60 watts.

My 2008 has no flashlight, no adapter and no wiring that I could find. I had the lower dash out for hard-wiring the radar detector.

NO!!!!
Its not there. There is a small round holder with some hole in the end?
Mb for a small round flash light. I can not se if there are power in - and the manual dont say anything. Good they dont shop to Europe then.

It must be possible to take power under the dashboard somewere.
Damn - the other solotion was so easy.

Strange they have changed the 2008 models so much - and they still call it the 2005 model and dont change anything in the appearance. Alone the change from the 2007 model took the dealer 30 min to explain when i picked the little new up at the dealership.
But the thing with the flash light was not good.
Bad BMW company!!!!!!

I bought the auxiliary power adapter for my 2008 328 and received it yesterday. I looked inside the glove compartment, but there was no place to plug it in! So my experience is consistent with the other posters that said BMW changed the 2008 models and this power adapter is of no use to us.
