E82 135i or E92 M3?
Am i crazy for having such a hard time with this? Here's the deal:
I have been so excited for the last month to get a 135i. I drove it and loved it. I have researched all the mods i am going to do on the car once i get it in a couple months and i'm even thinking about diverting from my norm and keep the car for a long time. Granted, it may turn into a track car in a few years but i just love that little car. Then, two days ago, i found a 2008 M3 coupe. It has every option i would want and it is only $54K with 3100 miles. My payment woud actually be close to what it would be for a 135i and i would probably end up spending less in mods (well, maybe). Something just keeps bringing back to the 1er, though. It's the refined power and agressive sound of the V8 compared to the raw feel of the i6 tt. They are both so different but each one has it's qualities that i cant ignore. Opinions? |

Go for the 135 . Both cars are amazing and the ///M is truly a different beast but you seem like your set on the 1. Go with your gut and also think about how much potential abuse the M had already taken. New cars ftw.

Without a DOUBT, go for the M3. At least that's how I see it.
It only has 3100 miles. Do a background check. If there's no abuse, no mechanical issues, then I don't see how it could be in bad condition. The car looks, sounds, and feels much better to me. I just never thought it was worth the extra cash. Spend 3k on an Eisenmann exhaust setup and .

i would vote M3 as well, but if you keep coming back to the 1er then go with your gut. you dont want to have any buyers remorse.
go test drive the ///M and see how you feel about the 135 afterward, if you still feel a longing for the 1 then its the right car for you |

The M3 is such a special car. You'll find 1 series cars everywhere, and as the years go by they will become more and more prevalent... the M3 is so so so special.
But then again, as everyone has said, its best to go with your gut. The 1 will be way cheaper to maintain and easier to sell when you're done with it.

Dude, go for a 335i. If you're into spunking all your cash on mods and then posting on here about how much better your car is than an M3 you should be on a winner LOL

I had the same choice to make, I just cant get into the larger feel on the m3 or the 335i
I went 135i simply because it felt better driving it I do not like the exterior on any of them

Well, an M3 is a track car out of the box. I think if you're into actually building a track car, I'd go with the 135i and mod it with the money you'll save by skipping on the M3.

OK, A M3 not really is a track car in my book but it handles rather well when using on a track. A 135i has a great engine and can be nice on a track as well but the electronic LSD in the 135i is not my cup of tea compared to the M limited slip diff and if you are going to mod the 135i be aware of overheating issues. I'd choose the M3 but the 135i is a bargain and 'new'.

If you can handle the difference in price and the increase in your gas bill and don't mind the bigger vehicle I would go for the M3.

I would go for the M3 , but you have to remember even though the starting price you are going to pay is nearly the same it much more expensive to maintain and M I would think so you would have to consider that, if that is a non issue then I would go M3 if it is then get a 135i

No two people are the same and ultimately you're the one that will need to decide which you'd rather have.
Another thing to consider is the M3's resale value after a few years will be higher than the 1er. If you're going to keep it as a track car for a while then this won't matter but if you're looking for an excuse to spend a little extra money that's always a good one |

A tremendous difference in cost of ownership -- mainly due to fuel consumption. Figure on the M3 costing about 2x as much in gas expenses each month. If this isn't a big deal to you, I'd say M3 all the way.

my vote is for the 135 here is my setup thus far
135 jetblack, coral red leather, 6 mt, premium hifi, sports pack, ipod usb, bmw assist, idrive. I payed 43 grand out the door. Now i have spent just about 5 grand for all my mods which are sitting in the garage, and i know terry burger and will be visiting him for a tune when im all done. I should be making around 400 wheel horsepower so with my kw suspension will be able to easily track the car. So if you bought a 135 bare bones you could get it for under 40 grand out the door plus 5-6 grand in mods and you've got an m3 killer. let the flaming begin!

You need a lot more than coilovers to make a 135i handle anywhere close to an M3.

i think he means in the long run like after your warranty runs out or if you mod the car.
