Need Help from Expert/IT
I am having this screen resolution problem after reformatting... I have a HDTV(1080p) hooked up to my computer as secondary/primary monitor, but now I can't fit the picture to screen on my HDTV, I can only fit to screen with 1152 by 648, if I pick 1280 by 1024 the picture would only show in the middle of the screen. And for my computer monitor if I pick any other resolution besides 1280 by 1024 the picture would like very weird and distorted, it was never like this before... Can anyone help? Thanks

1080p = 1920 X 1080
720p = 1360 X 768

Is there a Full Screen option that might help? Or check if the TV is set to display in 16:9 mode.
I have a macbook and I have hooked mine onto different sized HDTV's without an issue. And I believe I 'Fit to Screen' kinda always put it at the center with black boundaries.. |

As for OP, just make sure the pixels are either of those sizes. No other sizes (that are not 16 x 9) will work.

Don't know what brand of TV it is, but I do know all of my Samsungs have a Wide TV versus a Wide PC view/zoom. The Wide PC angle lets you see everything.

16 X 9 is the aspect ratio which is exactly what it means... a ratio.
For example: 1920 X 1080 to its lowest common denominator is 16 X 9. Any pixel ratio that follows this ratio (widescreen) should be fine for your TV. 1152 X 648 works as well (divide 648 by 9 which = 72, 1152 divided by 72 = 16). Try the pixel ratios that I have given to you earlier (1920 X 1080 or 1360 X 768) to your TV. Unless you have a really really old video card, your current video card should work. Update the drivers and try again. If you can't set your secondary monitor (aka your TV) to a pixel ratio of 1360 X 768 or higher, get a new video card (newegg is your best friend). Make sure the video card has two dvi-ports for multi screens. I'm actually doing this for my home theater project (computer monitor on table for general internet browing with a secondary monitor for my movies). Hope this helps. And by all means, if I am incorrect, somebody please correct me.

Once you're in VGA/DVI source, hit P.Size on it a few times until it says Wide PC, see if that helps.

Formatting your PC shouldn't affect your TV or the options on it... If the options are grayed out, maybe you are not plugged in to the VGA/PC port? If you're just plugging in HDMI or S-Video, the TV might not know it's a PC source and won't give you PC options.
Like danniexi said, HDTV/widescreen is 16:9 ratio. 16/9=1.78. Use a ratio that divides to the same number 1.78, or the image will be stretched to fit your TV. After you format your PC, you should definitely reinstall the video card drivers. I recommend getting the latest version of the drivers from the web. It will give your more functionality than what came on a disc. Download and run the installer for the drivers, and that should fix your driver version problems. |
