I was confused by the reports coming out of the first press releases back in March/April (the Spain gig), that stated a 155 limit for euro versions, which one of the testers claimed they were able to exceed (at least the indicated speed). The reports further stated that this euro limit was different from what would be available on US versions, which would have the 130/149 limits. Guess it was just the cars they had available at that press feeding frenzy that had a little higher limit than what is available on current production versions. You have to wonder if other aspects of the engine software might have been different as well. Hence the 5.6 0-60 time by C&D.

I have never seen an "unlimited top speed" statement -- all the official docs I have seen say 149 for ZSP equipped cars. Is there a link to a site with the US ordering guide? Has anyone read about, or better yet, experienced (!) unlimited speed in the E90?

Top speed is limited electronically at 130mph and according to BMW's website it would be 149 without the limited electronically thing. I did not see anywhere that having the sport package does away with that aspect. But I didn't look that hard.

The BMW website gives top speed as 130 [149]. The brackets [ ] indicates ZSP (see footnote), not what it would be without the electronic limiter. So the standard electronic limit is 130, and the limit on the ZSP equipped cars is 149. Fast enough for my purposes here in MO, but perhaps annoying when a MB with a higher 155 limit motors by you on autobahn A7...

This is the spec I found on the Canadian site. This is roughly 130 mph with no mention of the ZSP. |

Bummer -- you will not be able to keep up with the traffic flow when head south to Montana... Anyone with a Canadien ZSP explored the envelope yet?

That is why tires have speed ratings. And I guess you would have to be a brain to sue if you were only doing 149?
I agree that the Audi/BMW/MB speed&hp arms race is bordering on excessive and elitist. Is it still OK to lust for a M3? My 12-year old was giving me the old "how do you feel about our soldiers fighting in Iraq so you can fill'er up" guilt trip last night. But he thinks the E90 M3 will be awesome... |

Wow John, I wonder if Mduchesne had a similar order list, and yet has a limiter as per his description of what happened at 158 mph indicated. That would be an interesting development if BMW is really delivering cars without any electronic speed limiter. I would bet it is a communication glitch.

I have in front of me my order sheet for my 2006 330, printed by BMW. Under ZSP (sport package), there is an entry for "840 unlimited top speed."
This piece of paper is titled "Vehicle Inquiry Report" and it's what the dealer gave me to confirm what I had ordered. |

Also, as an addendum, MB AMG cars have been offered with this option for quite some time now, although I'm not sure if its in conjunction with a Sports package or not. I think the bottom line is: Its available, but you have to order it that way. |

I'd still love to hear from someone in Canada about the original question on this thread....I'm really curious about whether there is an ECU difference in cars headed for south of the 49th....

My Euro Spec 330 on 225/45 R17 (non-staggered) will run into the Limiter at about 157-158 mph
(there is no sport package for the Euro spec, so thatīll be the same for all Euro specs). Judging from the acceleration up to that point and the fact that the 231hp E46 330 would reach the same speed (although with more effort), the true unlimited top speed of the E90 330 would probably be around 161-163 mph. |
