Latest Mod: New Breyton Race GTS Alloys

A few pics of my most recent mod - sorry the pics are crap, lousy overcast day - I'll get some more scenic shots when the weather improves - promise

I used to be happy with my 225M's and they looked nice but the aggro with the cracks made me uneasy, so something new beckoned BUT there were some stipulations: The wheels would have to be just right (for me) - OEM look (not ricey), aggressive (but not OTT), concave at the rear, lightweight, perfect offsets (for a flush look) and from a well respected manufacturer.

I liked the look of BBS CH's in M fitment but with such a low offset they were going to be a pig to fit to the back end, so after a lot of looking and calculations, I finally settled on a set of Breyton Race GTS: They are 8.5J x 19 front ET30 (very flush) fitted with my Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 235/35 R19 tyres and 9.5J x 19 ET35 at the rear (but I've fitted 5mm Eibach spacers to bring them up to ET30) with my Vred 265/30 R19 tyres on.

I've fitted a new set of RAD bolts/locking bolts all round (longer ones at the back of course) - see my other thread for details. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238233

The change has definitely improved the handling: The new set up has a wider track front & rear but my 5mm spacer at the rear helps to retain a similar difference in front/rear track to OEM (so the handling remains predictable).

Amazingly the new wheels (which have been weight optimised) are a whole Kilogram lighter than the 225M's and I have to say that in conjunction with the non RFT Vredesteins the ride now seems almost as good as my Alpina used to be.

The 235 & 265 tyres definitely fit better on the wider rims and although I had thought about going up to 275 at the rear, I now don't think it would be worth trying, as with the current wheel/spacer set up I think it would certainly rub.

My thanks to:
Ant at Speed Religion for all his hard work/support and for putting up with such an awkward/demanding sod as me (Stage II Engine Tuning, Performance Exhaust, K&N, BMW BBK, Goodridge hoses, Quaife ATB Diff).
Nigel at Trade-Wheels (for doing me such a good deal on the Breytons).
Chris at Alloy Wheels Direct (RAD Wheel Bolts/Locking Bolts).
Ian at Camskill Performance (Vredestein tyres).
Michael at Lap-Tab - The Wheel Specialist (Powder Coating of all my wheels).
Dave at Demon Tweeks (Eibach spacers).
Teddy at SSDD Motorsport (M3 lip spoiler).
Simon at Opie Oils (oil & filter).
Ian/Baz at Knights BMW (for their ongoing support).
Anyone I forgot to mention and whoever's gonna do me a great deal on a Vorsteiner V35 bonnet - the next big mod

That is one lovely motor. Top job mate.

What are those brakes? Have you got caliper covers on? They look soo much nicer than the standard ugly calipers.

Thanks Zaytar.

The brakes have been uprated to the BMW Big Brake Kit: Which consists of larger Brembo 6 piston fixed calipers up front with larger cross drilled, vented and grooved disks (mine also has the Goodridge stainless braided hoses, which improve the feel) at the rear are Brembo 2 piston fixed calipers with vented disks.

The improvement in stopping power over stock is unbelievable.

Ant at Speed Religion fitted mine - top bloke

Thanks Alan - I like to mod a car so it looks like a factory edition, subtle but aggressive - so those in the know (whose opinion I value) can recognise the differences but it doesn't scream out 'Modified'.

Consequently, I never was a fan of the 'crashed through Halfords' look

Snooky/Remmib: Thanks guys - much appreciated.

Yves: Thanks. Yes mate, no problem - obviously getting the rears on with the loose 5mm spacers can be a little bit tricky but it's just a case of tightening gradually in sequence (opposing bolts) so they torque up right - other than that they fit a treat.

The ride and wheel control improvements (thanks to the lower unsprung weight) are night and day over stock.

Thanks mate.

You have PM - BTW that price excludes the stripping/powder coating I had done, which adds about £275 - £300, but I wanted to get the colour as close to the body as possible.

Mark, that looks absolutely fantastic mate; the Breytons look amazing !!

Sorry if I`ve missed it mate, but is yours a 335 or a 330 ?

Only reason I ask is that I can see you`ve had Ant`s stage 2 tune done, and I can see the two pipes at the back, so I presume it`s a 335, but I know that Ant also does a bumper conversion, to facilitate the 330 having the 2 pipes as the 335, instead of adjacent to each other.

Being nosey because I`ve got a 330d, with Ant`s stage 1 tune, and I was wondering what you thought of the stage 2, over and above the stage 1.

Cheers............in anticipation.

Looks spot on Mark, very very nice indeed

Mods are subtle to the innocent, but to an enthusiast they are serious stuff

The bonnet will look ace but not quite to your previous 'subtle' mod 'ethics', lol!

Thanks Paul - much appreciated.

Vorsteiner do a couple of versions, as do Seibon but at the moment I prefer the Vorsteiner V35 - granted it will make the car look a little more aggressive but I'll be spraying it into silver to match the body, leaving just the vents in black carbon, so with the other mods I think it's still in keeping with the 'factory edition' look

Thumbs up

What a great motor, some excellent mods. What made you choose Breyton wheels rather than OZ or BBS?
