ummm... yeah, i think that would fail as an R8 killer. here's why:
R8 = 4.2L V8 (414hp) or 5.2L V10 (518hp) Z10 = 3.0L I-6 (400hp) in order to "kill" the R8, you must be able to beat it at its own game. right now, if the idea is a nice competitor to the entry-level R8, this idea can do it. Kill the R8? no way. however, this 3.XL I-6 would make a nice addition to the next M3!

No doubt. I don't know how you can possibly think you can compete with a regular R8 let alone the R8 5.2 with an I6 Turbo unless BMW reverses their recent trends and makes the Z10 2800lbs.

oh come on ... they should just bring out the M1 hommage under the original M1 name and give it their V10 or well ... surprise us with their v12 that was supposed to come for the CS i believe it was
I already asked a BMW marketeer about that car however... and he said there were no plans for any production cars named "Z10". Ah well .. confusion gets my hopes up for M1 i guess |

beating R8 will be a tall task but im' sure BMW can put up a good fight. however, i dont see bmw making a supercar of any type anytime soon. they talked about it but all got shut down because of the current economic situation and the cost to develop such thing and not likely going to earn the type of return to make a business justification for. i'll believe it when i see it.
bmw will continue to make stupid cars that actually makes money like the X6 (and even more stupid M version of the X6). i think it would be great to put the TTV8 into a mid-engine bmw supercar, now that will give R8 a run for its money. tune it to make 450-500 hp.. man.. hope bmw will prove me wrong and create something worth been excited with. |
