AERO FRONT LIP again...advice and opinion please
OK....I know I've been talking about that getting that aero front lip for ages!
Called BMW Derek Woodman in Blackpool today. Prices I got for a painted front lip was £348 incl. postage. and fitted is £410. I live in London and Blackpool is about 5 hours drive away!!! Has anyone used their services before? Is it worth it for me to drive there to get a front lip fitted? what would you guys do? Spoke to a few of you at the meet and apparently, its not that hard to fit. Just worried, if I mess up!!! I hate messing about with the car! and even letting other people mess about with it! (Had some bad experience before where going for a simple oil change, they start breaking things up and tell you these need replacing etc) Looked at fitting/ installing the BMS JB3 remap....so many wires!!!! and there was a video guide!!! and I seriously think, I'm not risking it!!! then, I'll have to "deal" with all these warning lights coming on!!!...it was already a pain to see my lightbulb warning lights come on!!! was really tempted though when reading all your remap reviews and looking at your times at the POD! Anyway, think I'm just gona stick to cosmetic mods! the BMW PERFORMANCE wheels look nice!!! might start saving for these!!! and their induction kit!!! and strut brace.... so, coming back to my question....what should I do with the AERO Front Lip? Get it fitted by Derek Woodman? or fit it myself? |

Dude,
If they only want £50 ish to fit it it cant be that hard - though i will happily be corrected as im gonna try and do it myself when mine arrives. Alternatively speak to BMWmstyle down in Romford ... they quoted me £415 sprayed and fitted a while ago. http://www.bmwmstyle.co.uk/ Im going to pop to them to have the M3 lip put on sometime soon - £195 sprayed and fitted.

If I can do it, anyone can.
Choose tape or bonding agent? Tape is good in that you can take it off easily if need be, but once it sticks it sticks fast. Downside is you can see a gap at each end. Bonding agent will be permanent but will allow a tighter fit and will look better. |

To be honest, once you take the screws out of the original front bumper. then offer up the new one, it sits there pretty well on its own. You don't need much tape at all. Mine has a gap at the top, not big but it does bug me. There was a guy from a dealer selling for £299 painted on here a while back wasn't there? |

Have bought mine for £195 from C3 BMW (genuine part), having it sprayed & fitted by Thorpe Tone (Egham) for £120. Cocked up with the lip part, as there are two versions, one for cars with ACC and cars without. Have managed to trim mine down perfectly!

Don't be afraid of a JB3 install!!!! All you need is an 8mm socket wrench, a regular flat head screwdriver, and a tiny (like eyeglass repair) flat head screwdriver, and some electrical tape.
It's so incredibly easy once you get into it, and the increase to performance is amazing. The most difficult part is getting to the ECU for the first time. It will take you a while as it's hard figuring out what's what and how much pressure/force to use on certain things. It probably took me an hour the first time. I can get to the ECU in literally five minutes now. If nothing else, you learn about your engine and gain a certain comfort-level. Highly recommend you reconsider!
