Definitely good news for people with the N54 engine.

But it also makes me think they still have no idea how to fix it...

unless they fixed it in the 09 pumps... according to the info, they're extending the warranty on the pumps for 07s and 08s only

There have already been a few people with 09's whose pumps have gone.

It is the only right thing to do, if you want to not have the used prices to tank, which will decrease the residual values, which will lead to higher lease prices, which will lead to fewer customers, which will lead to less profits, which will lead to less workforce, which will lead to a bunch of unhappy Germans throwing around their power tools... and that's never a good thing.

Which will lead to less beer consumption, which will lead to the end of the world as we know it.

I wonder if the problem has to do with the material used for the seals, or with physical design aspects that don't allow for correction of the deficiency without a complete redesign and reengineering....

09's are new and their is still a lot of the standard 4yr/50k warranty left in them. My 07 is turning 50k soon and I'm not getting the extended warranty so this is good news. For the 09's they may add that down the road.

Stalling is a big safety issue that has forced recalls from other companies in the past. I won't be surprised if the NHTSA starts an investigation on this once enough data piles up.

One thing I haven't figured out yet, which may be interesting, is how many people end up in limp mode and are able to get safely out of harm's way? How many people just stall out and are SOL? I think that would be a good determinant of just how dangerous the failure is viewed as being.

I'm just waiting for the class action lawsuit, a la the Ford Explorer Firestone fiasco or the $1 billion Toshiba case. We just need someone to die first...

Does the car have to be real though?

I'm not a lawyer, but I think a real car is one of the requirements.
