peter pan bmw in san mateo
wussup all,
so i bought my alpine white 08 335i sedan a little bit over a week and a half ago. i brought it home and noticed there are corrosion spots on the paint. there are also 2 scratches on the rear bumper. from what i remembered, the salesman did not perform a walk around with me. i was told from several other dealerships (non-bmw) that they are required to perform a walk through. what should i do about this? i spoke with the general sales manager, but he seems to be trying to shove me out the door instead of trying to help. i think he expects me to let it go just because he promises a free trunk mat, detail job (horrible quality), and a free tank of gas. the salesman is showing a lot of attitude that i came back with my complaints. i'm afraid if i complain anymore, they'll just try to damage the car. the salesman also told me the car has the ipod controls which i really wanted, but it doesn't have. he basically said "oh well, i guess it doesn't" when i mentioned it to him after i purchased the car. i guess my question is, who and where could i go for this? i feel like i just spent so much money on a car that could have been nice instead of a car that is nice. i feel like i screwed myself on this car, even though they are just minor things. thanks for any help! |

I think you're sweatin' little stuff bro ......
I would definitely take the dealer up on the "free" goodies you mentioned but aside from that ....... I really don't believe you're going to get anywhere. Maybe you work a deal out for the Ipod adapter to be installed rather than the detail & gas. For what the dealer charges for the trunk mat and detail job you'll be saving them money going for the Ipod. You've got a NEW CAR bro!! Get in her and take her for a spin ...... (the car). .... |

You should have seen a Due Bill from the dealer. This would outline exactly what you are entitled to, detailing, mats, adding alarm, etc. Did they give you this? That sucks that the salesperson didn't fully review the full options of the car and go over the condition of the car.

corrosion? if it is corrosion, bmw warranty will cover it.
scratches? you should have done a better job walking through it before taking off the lot. the dealer is just going to say you probably scratched the car afterwards.... sorry, bud...

yup, that's what those mofos said. but i think they aren't pushing on that because they don't have that sign off on the "walk thru" i'm supposed to perform with the dealer.

First off, R1 335, you made the key mistake of taking the car without completely checking it over. I don't care if it's a new leftover, it's your responsibility to do a walkaround, drive the car, and make sure that it has the options that were advertised (like the iPod adapter). That being said, I would go to the sales manager and calmly let him know that the car is just not right and that you are respectfully asking him to make it right, and up to spec. The "extras" the salesman is throwing in are nothing and essentially worthless. I know that when I get a car, I want it to be perfect - no corrosion, scratches -- perfect. If you don't get satisfaction, write a letter to the GM and owner of the dealership and a copy of BMW Customer Relations very clearly spelling out the issues. Good luck - you'll know better next time. I know because I did the same thing with a new Audi S4 - the transmission wasn't right, but I took delivery anyway and after the trans was out of the car x3, I traded it back to the dealer (with all of 2400 miles on it) for my TT.

New car warranty will take care of the paint defects if the corrosion is found to be a defect. As far as the scratches go cut your loses on that and after they sort out the defective paint get a good detailer to take care of that on your own and chalk that up to a lose on your part. As far as the iPod adapter goes, do you have anything in writing from the dealer, price quote anything outlining the options? If so, calmly and respectfully talk to the salesman and the GM using that as your evidence as to what they should have sold you, ask that they install that and no worries on trunk mat or detail. Heck the trunk mat is $55 from Tischer and the detail cost them nothing but an employees hourly and I'll be that person is simply a lot person not an Autobody person, do they even have a body shop there? If none of this works write the letter to the Dealer's owner and BMW NA and follow it up a week later with a call to BMW NA and please document all interactions as right now it seems like it's just a he said/she said thing and that won't get you any leverage. Good luck.

I bought my '08 335i from Jason Lau at Peter Pan BMW and had a great experience.
I've heard everyone else there is just horrible though. I notice a lot of the BMWs I see in my area are all from Peter Pan BMW. I'm guessing because they have the best prices, but maybe not the best service. |
