Lowering & Insurance
I've been looking at getting the H&R springs and thought I'd better enquire what the insurance effects were. I'm with BMW insurance and was horrified at the premium increase - £188
This would effectively increase my premium by a third and pushes the cost of the modification to well over £500. This sounds ridiculous to me - does anyone have any similar experience? BTW, I also enquired about a Bluefin 47hp gain and the increase would have been £415 with both mods (plus excess up to £750) - a premium increase of around 75%

Mods do bump up the insurance
Consider using a more specialist insurance company that is more familiar and comfortable with the modicifactions you are looking to do |

Your premium seems very low for the vehicle, so you must be a low risk driver, this means mods will weight your premium proportionally more. Direct line who I use want £75 flat increase for ECU mods. I'll call them about suspension mods to see.. |

A very good company for mods is LV Insurance who I use.
You can tailor the quote to reflect the changes made, and they are very competitive. The increase for all my mods came out at an increase of approx £100.00 and I still only pay £540.60 for Fully comp This gives you an idea of what boxes you can tick:

My remap was peanuts Ed,in fact the other (too many!) boxes made far more of a difference to the premium.
The Bluefin sounds ideal if warranty is a worry, just whip it out prior to service, and no one's any the wiser. (whip it in, whip it out, and wipe it!) Get ticking

I'm with swift cover and just reading the terms of my policy and I see they will not insure cars with "Modifications to the Engine Management System for the benefit of performance"

I suspect that the answer would be the same. Although the face is BMW, I suspect that the company behind it (UK Insurance Group) actually has nothing to do with them.

Probably very correct Ed.
Most companies are just brokers.

Did you declare all mods on the 330i? and how much did that increase the premium.
