If you are going to seriously mod it, go for the e46 M3. When it's all CSL'd out, it's pretty hard to beat. Adding an HPF kit with it wouldn't hurt either Even if you aren't going to mod it, go for the e46 M3. The driving experience is incomparable and it is going to be a legend (I'd say it's Germany's Supra)

IMO, the e46 M3 = best car under $100K (MSRP new)

I wouldn't buy a 335i if it was not fully loaded, so pretty much all the features

I would never get the older M3. It will make you feel even worse when the new M3 pulls up next to you. Get the 335 and put a tune in it.

Even worse? Worse than what? I'm just glad I don't need the next big thing to feel good about myself and my car

I would take a low mileage e46 M3 with $10K for mods over an e92 M3 any day of the week

um guys the e46 m3 is hot but it just cant keep up with a 335i (modded) for about 1000 bucks you could get a 335 in low 12 area and with the m3(e46) its either you get mid 13 area or 10 second car with a hpf turbo witch btw is alot of thousands of dollars (thats if your looking for speed)

looks wise e46 m3

335i ftw

Some good responses for the e46, I understand more maintence is required. I'll continue to keep an eye out for my e92, but until majority of the leases come back it will be seldom. As for the 06 m3, the ones im looking at are priced around $32 for 40k miles, give or take. I want a white/black combo, but it seems its a tough combo to get just as it is for the e92. One would think its a basic combo. Lots of blue m3's though!

When you say low mileage what are we talking here?

tough choice, m3 is sick but it just would bother me to have an older body car you know. still looks great and shit its an m3 but with the e92, and facelift aproaching its a tough choice. dont they compare the 335's performance with the e46 m3 more or less anyway?

As someone who has never owned a bmw up until a few months ago, i was never a fan of the e46 M3. I would say go with the 335i.
