Door Ding
Came out of Costco to see that someone had parked close to me and open the door and gave me a big door ding on my car. They must of went somewhere and left before I came back out. They must of realize what they done and parked at a different spot. I swear people are so careless and rude. I parked really far too.

That really sucks; I totally feel for you I once exited a store to witness some meatsack fling their door open so that it smacked my car. Loudly. The meatsack got out of their car, checked their door for damage, and walked away... not even glancing at my vehicle. I was pretty incensed, and I am still thankful that I did not confront them: it would not have resolved the issue, and in my frame of mind I would have only made things a lot worse. In retrospect, the only thing I would have done differently is NOT key his door in exchange. He deserved it, but I feel truly remorseful about that.

I was sitting in my car once (my Jetta GLX) and the car next to me threw the door open and hit my front fender so hard my car moved slightly. By the grace of God, there was no damage to the car (I think it hit the rubber strip on the side of the fender just behind the wheel well).
I got out of the car and peered down at my fender for a good 30 seconds, then turned around and glared at the dumb looking (sorry she really did look dumb) lady in the passenger seat who was responsible for about 30 more seconds. Then I calmly said, "please be more careful of other people's property" and drove off. I felt that was appropriate, and just the right amount of confrontation. (but I would have loved to have Bruce Lee'd their windshield!). |

When I find parking spots, I look for big ones - and try to park next to cars that look well kept. I mean, someone might have a brand new 330i - but just bought it because they have money and need a car - whereas someone else in a honda, might have bought it because it's the best thing they could afford but love their car and take perfect care of it!
I try park next to clean, scratchless, waxed, well kept cars...not matter what make/model! |

Another tip is not to park beside cars with baby seats in the back!!
I know how you feel, I've got a tiny ding in my drivers door and was cursing the unknown *&^%$£"!@~# up and down. And that's only for a ding that's very hard to see!! |

A few years ago when my Maxima was new, I was at a mall and when I returned to my car there was a nice big ding on the door. I could tell it was from the Land Rover next to my car so I slammed the bottom of my foot into the passenger door and left a huge dent(larger then I ever imagined). It felt good but then I began to worry that there may have been security cameras in the garage so I moved to another parking spot. I know it was stupid but I was so pissed off at the lack of respect people have for other peoples cars.

The first Door Ding is the worst part about owning one of these cars.
I have less than 50 miles on it, and I am afraid to drive it anywhere. Well, not exactly, DRIVING is not an issue, it's PARKING it. |

The best strategy is to find a spot that only alllows one vehicle to touch yours, preferable the passenger side of that vehicle. Most cars only have a driver, so chances are likely the passenger door of that vehicle won't even open. I hug the outside of the spot (careful not to scrape my wheels) to keep as much room from the perp and my car as possible.

I'll take the other side of this issue. I of course try very hard not to open my door into other's vehicles, but I have had my kids more than once open the doors into the cars next to us. It pisses me off at the kids, makes me feel bad about the other guy's car, but in the end, what do you do? I try to be careful when the kids get out of the car, but sometimes it's out of your control. My car also has door dings, presumably from similar situations.

yea...kids, college kids, and fat a$$es. Few years ago, I parked at the parking garage, and some $hitty honda dinged and scractched my car. So from then on, I just started parking in spaces that just cannot have another door near my car or far away from everybody. My friends keep complaining that they have to walk far but "hey...we need the exercise and I need the security"

Another solution is to park in 2 spaces - unless of course the car park can issue tickets!
Had a few glares - but no-one has ever said anything. Got my reply all worked out though if ever they do! |

I am really careful to not hit the car next to me, even when i had my 92 celica i still watched out for my car and the one next to me. Mainly cause i didnt know if the driver was around the corner or walking back to his/her car..
Its to the point where sometimes i cant breathe trying to get back into my car just so i wont hit the other one.. I think ive probably flashed a few witnessess whenever im wearing a skirt trying to get back into my car . But nowdays with all these hummers, range rovers, expeditions..etc., it makes parking that much more difficult
