Don,

Do the MIR rental day event. I may not do it as I probably won't be done with break in, but I would definitely go and take some pics if you do it.

Why would you want to spend four times as much to drive a BMW in a straight line?

i agree but thats one of the issues with these new HP cars nowadays. they have so much power, people wanna test how fast they really are. that is fun, dont get me wrong but once you learn how to launch, driving in a straight line becomes a little boring for me. not a lot of real world application IMO.

autox takes a lot more driver skill to learn how to handle turns, when to brake/accelerate, how to fine tune your car to handle better (and i'm not talking what engine tune to put in), and how to find out what your car is capable of.

for some reason, many people on this board like to drive fast, but dont wanna put in the work to really know how to do it right.

all that being said....i passed MIR twice last week, and now feel an urge to go

Don't get me wrong, I like drag racing too. I grew up in redneck country, and I've made a dozen or so passes in a couple different cars. It's cool to see cars go that fast, but it is sooooo boring after literally five minutes IMO. The day I stopped caring about drag racing was when my buddy took his diesel F-250 to the strip and embarassed many "fast" cars. He then towed a Subaru and a Nissan home which both broke.

Everytime I go, I feel like it's just a waiting game to see whose car we'd tow home first with a broken tranny, clutch, axle(s), etc. I guess that's part of the "fun?"

That said, I'd much rather drag race than hard park.

How about everyone go to the autocross to practice launching and to see if your steering wheel works?

vans are not allowed; take the M3 and learn how to drive it. there will be plenty of other M cars, along with Porsches, Vipers, Vettes, etc.

we have more women participating this year than I can remember driving totally stock cars. quite a few have said that they are hooked and i've seen that they've registered for Sat.

I was going to ask the same question. Looks like it will be rainy.

I'd like to come to one of the AutoX events sometime, having never done one, but I'm not sure I can make it this Saturday.
