335 Mag Review: first drive

At candiandriver.com the fron-page article has a "first drive. review of the 335; seems like everyone drove it at the press launch in Austria.

It is a bit of a kiss-a@@review, but we all will enjoy it since it is a gushing endorsement of the N53 engine.

Some nice pcs as well are included in the article.

Enjoy.

The article mentions 18'' rims with Michelin's, but the pics show 17'' rims(V-spoke 188). What is to be thought about such a nonprofessional review?

The car you see in magazine pictures is not always the same car that the magazine tested. This happens all the time.

The article mentioned that the Michelins were quiet.

Which makes me wish for the PS2s RFTs to be made avialable in NA

This is true, but misses the problem. Since the car in the pic is different than the one tested, the question is raised as to what car the writer actually drove. Sometimes the car and the pics are different, for sure, but the intent of the article and the understanding of the reader is that the writer is commenting about the car in the pic (unless the pic says "stock photo" , which this one does not). Therefore we are left guessing. He could have driven the "18 rims and sport package, and the mistake was the photo, or he could have driven the car in the pic, and mistakenly thought he had the "18 sport package.
Since one of the few complaints testers seem to have about this car is the harsh ride quality of the 18s, this isn't a trivial point to all.
I for one was excited when I read the comment then bummed when I saw the pic, for the reasons above.
Man, I must be bored today to write that much about this topic!

I would assume if 18's were specifically mentioned then that's what the reviewer drove.

I also agree that most pics are for illustrative purposes only....17's, 18's, etc. will be subject to the configuration the end buyer will take delivery of.

I would imagine he had the 18, as he did drive the 335 (I think that the 17s come with the 328) - unless in Europe the configs are different. As well, the 335 has the ZSP as standard, so he would have driven a sports-package suspension setup.

You are probably right. He likely drove the 18s.. I think the 19s are the ones that have a lot of drivers are complaining about the ride harshness.
Question is whether the car in the pic does have 17s or 18s. Aren't those the same wheels found on the E90 sport package as standard?

..interesting point...the 'ZSP' one buys when ordering a 335i is actually just the speed limiter removal (now 155mph is possible !!) and the 189's (18")

THe 'sport suspension' is standard on the 335i then.... The tire and wheel selection will be a huge difference on hte ride... I'm going with the ZSP 189's... I know I will be pleased with the appearance... I hope hte ride is as wonderful.

No, the E90 sport package has Style 162 wheels, which are 18".

The ones on the car in the review are Style 188, show here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18340

and are indeed 17".

The article does mention "Our test cars were equipped with..." which leads one to believe that they had multiple cars to test.

According to Michelin.ca these tires are listed as being available in Canada. So, let's hope that the new 335 coupes come equipped with the Michelins PS2s rather than the harsh riding Bridgestone RE050As.
