BMW added a temp gage for the 335 coupe

Not sure if this was mentioned before...

Look at the gage cluster picture. The gage in the tacho is now a temp gauge!!

Not sure how I feel about that as I like the fuel consumption gage!

No more instant MPG?

It is nice to have the temp though, just in case!

its old news, as e90fleet had corrected me the gauge is an oil temp gauge not water temp...

Yes, I agree, I want one of those on my next BMW as I miss the temp gauge on the e90 ( I have never looked at the consumption gauge).

agreed. Anyway, the "Trip Computer" calculates it for you as well. What matters to me is the overall average, not the up to the minute MPG anyway.
Especially on days like the ones we've been experiencing. Temps are important.

[QUOTE=KL2DC] the gauge is an oil temp gaugeQUOTE]
it's been said that the 335 gets the oil temp guage so that the driver will know when the turbos have cooled sufficiently to shut off the engine. anyone know if this is the case i.e. is a waiting period after "hard driving" still going to be necessary with this engine and if so is that the purpose of the guage?

I agree. I'd rather have a fixed oil temp or a selectable gauge. How hard can that be? The needle moves over a LCD panel akin to the central warning lights. Then the driver can have their choice of such information as: oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, volts, amps, vacuum, outside air temp, atmospheric pressure, IQ of the driver in front, current cost of a barrel of oil (damned thing would be fluctuating more than the current gas-o-meter), etc.

How hard is it to have both the oil temp and real-time fuel consumption gauges? Certainly the real estate of the dashboard allows that.

All the fuel consumption gauge tells you is how far you are pushing the gas pedal down. It's worthless.

Oil temperature is much more valuable, especially for a turbo'd car.

Sounds like you'd like the Mercedes S Class gauges:

These Gauges are cool as hell. BMW need to get with the program. With the exception of the 7-series, BMW has had the same gauge design since the early eighties. BMW gauge design looks dull/plain and every other car maker that I can think of has a car in their lineup that has cooler looking gauges than BMW. I’m all for virtual LCD gauges.
