for shopping, it'd be kickass.... just pile all the stuff in your cart and head for the door.

Think about it, if you have a chip implanted in your hand or something that will tell everything about you, if someone wants the chip bad enough...well...

I believe that they are so small that they can fit one on the head of a pin, so they are very hard or impossible to find. It could have some type of verification though, at least for purchases over a certain amount.

I don't want it but I think the military already has it in our future. They say it will be for tracking and storing info and what not but I still would not want to have it or a barcode of some sort.

actually that is the next wave of the future.......at least in grocery retail as far as I know. Walmart is making all of their vendors implement these chips in their products--to use it for inventory purposes, warehouse distribution centers, etc. They are not the only ones either. Albertson's is also planning on using this technology in the next 2-3 years. I'm sure that there are other industries as well. I just read in the Chicago Tribune that they are trying to make a law that requires that all dogs get "chipped" so that when they get lost, or get loose and bite somebody, etc., they can locate the owner.

"If an animal is involved in a bite situation, we can identify it. But mostly, it's to return your animal to you."
A City Council ordinance likely to face a Wednesday vote would require dog owners to have a microchip implanted in the scruff of a pet's neck for identification purposes.

Both of our dogs have microchips inside of them. We had to send their information by mail so that they would be registered.

I'm definitely for this and other similar technologies in general, but it all depends on how they're used. For tracking inventory and things like that, I think it's fantastic. For implanting in people? Not so sure about that yet. I think there would need to be a significant advance in technology and infrastructure first to make it viable, not to mention legislation to regulate it.
