Dealer using remanufactured parts in warranty repair? Is this normal?

My dealer has identified a warranty repair for my 330i and suggests that I have my steering column replaced. (steering is 'notchy' at slow speeds) On the work order, it indicates that they have ordered a REMANUFACTURED hydro column (steering rack and column) - not a brand new one.

I asked about this (my car has only 9,000 miles on it) and the service advisor told me this was standard practice for BMW - that they always provide their dealers/customers with remanufacured parts on warranty repairs, not new ones.

Can anyone else confirm or advise on this? It doesn't sound right to me.

remanufactured is perfectly normal

it's not used and just thrown in, it's been rebuilt to new standards

Normal. ALL makes do it.

That said, as new as the E90 is, I can't imagine that a reman steering rack/column is common, maybe not even available at all.. you may well get a new one.
