Single Button Off for Climate Control?

Does anyone know how to turn the climate control OFF with a single button press? The only way I have found is to turn the fan down until the system turns off - this is 2-4 presses depending on the fan speed.
Thanks

As far as I know, that's the only way.

I suppose you could plant a bomb inside the car and then push one button to detenate it and then your AC would go off.

C' mon guys, it is not that hard to press the fan button multiple times. Most of the time u are not at full blast anyways, so all u would do is press it 2 or 3 times.

if you want a quick way to shut off climate control for a throwdown street race, just hit the snowflake button to turn off the A/C compressor.

I'm not exactly sure of this, but I believe that putting the Step into sport mode may also alter when the AC compressor runs.

I was sitting at a light the other day with the AC on and went into DS, and I saw the revs jump up very slightly but it was there. Went back and forth a few times and saw the RPMs move each time. Turned off the AC, didn't see any movement in the RPMs when going from D to DS and back.

Damn, then either we are all doing 0-60 in 20.4 seconds and don't realize it or BMW calculated the 0-60 time with the AC ON so we're really doing 0-60 in like 1.9 seconds. Neat.

Auto climate controls suck. This one is better than others I've experienced in the past, but it's still retarded. Example: I leave the office in 113 degree heat, the thing is set for "auto", temps set at 68 for both sides. It faithfullly fires up full blast, but within minutes, it decides that it's appropriate to throttle the fan back to about 3 bars (halfway or less), while the car is still about 85 or so inside. Duh! I then either have to hit the MAX button or the fan speed button a few times to get some decent airflow going again. And having to hit the button a bunch of times to shut it down IS irritating! Shouldn't be necessary.

Any "auto" system that you have to fiddle with more than straigtforward manual controls is a waste of money. The whole notion of the car thinking for you when your hand is about 12 inches from the damn controls at all times anyways is another example of technology for technology's sake. If it can't do the job better than the driver can, why bother??

man, I totally agree, I've experienced that too, when it's not cold enough and the fan speed goes down to almost non-existent, I'm always like, "umm, I don't remember telling you stop, you blow when I say blow damnit! and blow hard"

I find myself hitting the max button a few times in those cases

On page 99 of the Owner's Manual, at the bottom of the left column there is a paragraph titled, Switching the system on/off. It reads,

"With the blower at its lowest setting, press the left side of the button to switch off the automatic climate control. All indicators go out.

"Press any button except REST to reactivate the automatic climate control."

Don't know if this helps you or even answers your question but that's what I found in the book.

If you have iDrive there is the automatic ventilation setting where you can set a time for a fan to come on and recirculate fresh air inside. It lowers the temperature inside quite a bit. Lately it's been unseasonably hot here and I've used this feature numerous times. The times I didn't I've noticed that the temperature inside the car in the afternoon is higher than when I remembered to set the time. I park within six spots of the same place each day and the ambient temperature has been fairly consistent. This feature works for me.

Oh, that sux. I used to set my A4 to Auto and never touch it again. But then again, I could turn the whole system off or just the A/C with 1 button. I guess this isn't why you buy a BMW.
