If you see the 335i on Top Gear (which is fairly likely), it probably won't be until the winter season of the show comes on, sometime in November or so. Top Gear generally shows in two seasons per year - spring/summer (which is what we're getting now) and winter. And, most of the episodes (not including the studio portions) are filmed well in advance.

Actually, his M5 review was very fair and brutally honest, if you ask me. I've got numerous hours behind the wheel of the E60 M5.

He spent half of that particular segment panning the M5 for good reason. It really is a pretty damn annoying car - the SMG is not a good transmission for cruising around town, the car is ridiculously complicated to operate (there really ARE dozens of settings for suspension calibration, differential mode, shift speed, and so forth), and the thing guzzles gas at Chevy Suburban-like rates - even when cruising. This may be surprising for those of you who haven't driven one, but for all of the performance it offers, the E60 M5 is NOT a good driver's car.

He also loved the car when he really got on it, for good reason. When driven to the limit, the M5 is a brilliant car. When driven the way you'd drive a normal car, it's fairly boring and irritating. I like the M5 for what it is (a good bit of fun when driven to the limit), but after my experiences with it, I definitely wouldn't consider buying a normal E60 for regular daily use.

I understand their problem with the Idrive system on the M-series cars, and I see their point with the "320d company-car" problem in the UK. But Mr. Clarkson seems to have a recurrent problem with the marque we are all familiar with. Don't get me wrong--this is one of the best shows out there. I have an archive of 20+ shows ("Elaine--to my archives!!"). However, I feel Tiff has a better view of BMWs in general, and his years as a professional racer give him an edge over Mr. Chipping Norton.

I think tonight's episode of TG (July 30) is the last of the current series and there's no mention of the 335i in the programme description. The French press are just starting to get their hands on the car, so I doubt the UK will be getting a drive until the Autumn.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for any British review of the E92/335i. They all seem very biased against German cars , and especially BMW. Perhaps, the BMWs are just too darn good for the Brits to publicly acknowledge their excellence. Several reviews that have been published (eg. Autocar ) with grudging compliments, together with some serious negatives (like RFTs, "stodgy styling" and "infernal active steering"). It would seem that the British auto journalists have a difficult time recognizing "the ultimate driving machine". They would rather knock it than praise it.

Regardless, I can't wait to see what's in store for the last episode of the season.

How is that any different than the ceaseless praise the cars receive from the North American motoring press? One group would have you believe that BMW succeeds despite itself, the other would have you believe that BMW can do absolutely no wrong. The reality lies somewhere in between.

P.S. for a nation (or at least for the automotive press said nation harbors) that "hates" German cars, it certainly buys plenty of them. Take a spin around the M25 or M4 sometime - two out of every three cars you'll see is German made.

If you go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/programmes/?id=top_gear you can preview a couple of clips of tonights (last) episode and re-run the previous edition.

So its a review of the amazing Noble M15..they are made just 45 mins from where I live
...plus a typically daft TG feature on the fastest real world vehicle ....a white van in a sort of cops and robbers thang.

Anyway back to the German car attacking........it probably comes from the tabloid press always bashing the Germans (not just the cars) oh and the French, argies [insert any other country they are currently having a go at] etc.
I don't really know how that xenophobic theme sells newspapers but I presume it must do as they keep doing it !...well that and plenty pretty girls with large uncovered breasts (usually on page 3).

Remember BMW get off lightly compared to Vauxhall on TG

Haha, thanks for catching my error, i think im too exctied when i type anything about my upcoming BMW, my first BMW by the way, think ill be please? I'll fix the error.

Also, the times preview/first drive/review of the 335 was better than decent, although they did put in a few jabs at the "German" way of doing things.
