What should I do now that the NAV is delayed on the e92?!
My dealer called me to let me know that my car would not go into production until the beginning of September because I have Idrive as one of my specs for the car. If I decide to get rid of Idrive from the specs then my car will go into production within the next two days, meaning my car would be here in september as originally planned. I really really don't want to wait any longer. I've been waiting 6 months already having extended the lease on my car already twice for 3 month extensions. If I were to get the car in september then I wouldn't have to extend my lease again, but if I keep the NAV, then I would have to extend my lease again for 3 months (which is the minimum) because the lease is up at the end of sept.
I don't know what to do. I really think the NAV makes the interior look more luxurious. Also, my folks are paying for most of the car, so it won't cost me anything for the NAV. I would rent a car for the time inbetween, but for a little more money, I could extend my lease. The more I think about it, the more I realize I wouldn't use the NAV that much. But if I don't have to pay for it, it may be a great thing to have! So what should I do? Stick with the NAV or dump it and save my parents some cash. |

The question comes down to if nav is a must have option for you? If you don't get it will you regret it down the road? Also, if your parents are paying for the car do you still live at home? The reason why I ask is maybe you can work out some arrangement were you borrow one of their cars during the extract time that it takes for yours to come in with nav. Do not want to be spending extra money if you don't have too.

In a few years the Nav technology is going to be so out dated that it will be embarrassing.
i.e., who uses a CPU that is much more than 4 years old? I look at Nav as just another gadget. If you really want nav you can buy a personal GPS device for around $500 or less. Plus I think the Nav looks like crap on the dashboard. http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__Mio_M...=27/clt_id=961 Maybe I'm just justifying my decision, but skip the Nav imo.

Dump it and get the car as early as possible.
Post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...75&postcount=4 shows a good alternative for iDrive and BMW Navi, which is to expensive IMO.

..good point about the Nav being outdated in the future years...but to me is seems that the NAV is only part of having the iDrive features...access to car functions...integration of the iPod.. lots of possibilities if you have the iDrive... fun but not entirely necessary. Yes you dont need that to enjoy the car but who would say later 'I think I will add Nav to my car' never... if you are considering Nav I think it will only make sense to get it at purchase. In hte end you are talking about a 1 month delay approximately *unless they delay it again* Hopefully I will not regret it but I will wait for the Nav as I know I will not want to be adding too much to the car post purchase... I am going to enjoy the warranty and not mod (in a warranty destroying way) the car. All the best on your choice! Hope to have my car (as ordered in my sig) in hand before October ends! ~Frost

It will be worth the wait because you will be kicking yourself if you don't get it for as long as you have the car.
Don't extend the lease. Ditch the car at the end of the lease and get a cheap rental for the few weeks till your car gets here. The iDrive will be well worth the wait. Ed

I don't have nav in my e90, and I think it is one of the must-have options. I am stuck with this car until I sell this one, but if I have to do it all over, I will definately add nav to my car. Wait few months, and get navigation. That way you won't regret down the road.

I was faced with the exact same dilemma. I chose to wait it out. Two months will fly by and I will have the exact car I want, no regrets. The benefit of having factory navigation goes beyond the actual navigation feature. The screen displays a trip computer, blue tooth phone book (i think), and park distance control feature will show actual distances on the screen when backing up. It definately upgrades the whole interior look imo....

Read all the threads of people trying to upgrade xenon lights and spending $$$ over factory price. Like many others said, wait it out or you too will start a thread " can I upgrade to Nav". As to the portable, I tried that and it gets old moving back and forth between the windshield and the glove box, beacuse it is one item theives will break your car to get.

I would have to say that aside from the sport package, that iDrive/Nav is one of the most significant upgrades available on the E90/E92. Sure it makes the interior more luxurious, but there are many features separate from the Nav itself that make it a worthwhile upgrade.
Considering that you already have access to a car, I would just wait a little longer.
