***alert!!! When Engine Is Warmed Up***
Sorry If This Was Already Posted Though I Looked Through All That I Could And Didn't See It. I Bought My Silver 325i About A Month Ago And Was Concerned About Knowing When The Engine Is Warmed Up. A Week Ago I Noticed That The Oil Level Meter On The Display Wont Read The Oil Level Until It Is At Oporating Temp. I Know This Is More Work Than Looking At A Gauge But It's Our Only Option. I Tried This Everyday For A Week And Without Fail Every Time It Was The Case. When Oil Is Cold It Is Thicker And Takes Up Less Volume As It Heats Up It Thins Out And Expands So This Explains Why It Wouldn't Read It Until Its Warm. Hope This Helps And Sorry Again If This Was Already Posted.

You Guys Know How To Quickly Capitalize The First Letter Of Every Word, Right?
If Not, Type Your Post In Microsoft Word, Highlight The Text (Except For The First Word In The Sentence), Then Hit F3 While Holding Down The Shift Key. This Toggles The Text From Lower Case To First Letters Capitalized To All Caps. Ta-Freakin’-Da. Now what was the OP about? Oh, and ![]()

You should check the oil when the oil is warm, not cold. That’s because oil expands and contracts depending on the temperature. If you check at different temperatures, your readings will vary. Normally you would llow at least 15 minutes for the oil to filter back into the crankcase oil pan but in our BMW the temp has to reach a certain point before it will provide a reading. I say about 10 miles or about 10 minutes of just driving around will do the trick. I recently changed my oil and having to check a number of times before the reading will take place.
