Montego Blue - how long before this stunning color loses it's luster in the FL sun?
Hi,
Montego Blue is one of my top 3 choices for an exterior color (along with Space Gray and possibly Titanium Silver). It looks so good in the official pictures that I've found on this site. However, I live in Florida and will likely be living in Arizona before too long. I don't have a garage in FL nor do I expect that I'll have one if/when I make the move to AZ. My concern is that, while this color - 'Montego Blue' - is going to be a knock-out if/when I get it new, that before too long it will lose much of its luster after a few short years of baking in the sun. Any thoughts/experiences with this (or similar) metallic colors under these conditions? BTW - since this won't be a lease, I'll probably be driving this car for a very long time. Thank You, BimmerDreamer |

i have nooo idea what im talking about at all. and im just rambling about a topic that i have no professional knowledge about at all. but i would THINK/ASSUME that in the year 2006, bmw and PAINT have had some pretty good technological advances, and i would figure even if a BMW paint job would fade, it would be like 10+ years. longer than you probably would own the car? but again, im just talking about my butt

With some TLC the color shouldn't fade at all. If its going to be stored outside, you might consider buying a car cover. The metallic paints act to reflect more light so this may help over a solid color. I chose Montego Blue and a light interior but we don't get quite the same level of sun up here

Can you not put up one of those temp garages? I think its safe to say that the color will fade over time unless or maybe if you keep enough wax on it and frequently applied, you might have a chance. This would be a good question for Picus. Try and PM him for the answer.

I wouldn't worry too much.
I know for a fact that there are plenty of people in Florida and in Arizona that drive blue cars. I mean, seriously.

should be fine with the blues esp with regular maintenance. I read somewhere it is the reds that are most prone to UV fading.

I have a Tpoaz Blue e46 from late 1999 and the color is still as deep and vibrant as the day I bought it. I wax it every 3-5 months, although I have a feeling that it could take a lot more abuse than that before damaging the paint/color.
Bottomline: I wouldnt worry at all about paint fade on this car. |

I lived in Phoenix and now Dallas and the only car I would say faded was a red Nissan that dated back to college and it wasn't really noticeable if the car was cleaned and waxed. Admittedly I don't keep cars nearly as long now but I would think you'll be okay. I did purchase a BMW car cover for my red e46 when I lived in Phoenix. If you think you'll be living in an apartment in AZ most have covered parking as an option for a couple of bucks more and many include one covered space as part of the deal.
