2nd thoughts on 335
i have an order in for a 335i sedan and all options figured out, but I am leaning towards buying a 2003 M5 i have found instead. The M5 is slightly more expensive, has few miles on it, and no warrenty. The M5 definitly comes with more baggage, but im thinking ill be happier with the car. What do you guys think?

The M5 is a sweet ride, but it depends on what you want in the car. Personally, I would get the 335 because of the following reasons:
1) It's a new car, with warrenty. I dunno about you, but I think the cost of ownership of bmws around 80-100k miles is ridiculously high. That's the reason I sold my e36 M3 for the e90. 2) Better gas mileage 3) Smaller car = more fun to throw around 4) The new car smell!!!!!! 5) Knowing the history of every scratch, dent, or mechanical problem with the car.

The M5 is my dream car, and that's exactly what I was about to do. I could've gotten a really nice one for under 60k. But I choose to go with a brand new car. Main reason being, I've owned used BMW's and after they're a couple of years old, they get very expensive to maintain. Especially an M car, a break job is almost $3k. Besides, most M cars have been driven hard...

Well I was in the same boat as you about a week ago. I had a 335i on order for euro delivery and I was trying to decide between a e46 M3. I just bought the M3 and that car is a blast to drive! 100 mph comes in a blink of an eye. I got it for 37k. It's a 02 convertible with 22000 miles. I also got an extended warranty as well for 4 more years/50000 miles. The e92 I feel would be more luxiorious with its newer technology, but its still not an M. I found a few independent BMW shops in the Bay Area to do my maintanace, but its still very expensive. But which ever car you choose, M5 or 335i, I'm sure you would be happy with either. Good Luck.

as you know the m5 is a 4 door 'm'onster car. the e60 m5 forum members lovinly refer to their cars as 'the beast'
i am sure the previous model m5 won't be far short of that title. my question is why so few miles on the clock from such a wonderful car one would be itching to drive? usually an m buyer knows exactly what they are buying and would be throwing the car at every hill, twist and turn they could find - well i would, anyway. and themanner in which my e90 so competently addresses the hills and twists, i could only imagine how the m5 would go. personally, iam a new car person. but if you know exactly what the m5 (short) history is, you love how it drives and you are happy, well the m5 is very tempting. until i could make a direct comparison between the m5 and 335, i could not choose. the 335 promises to be a spectacular car no doubt but it isn't quite a m car. all the best with what seems to be a difficult decision for you but chalk & cheese for others.

Here's my suggestion.
Get the M5. The original owner already took the depreciation hit on it, so you're ok there. Drive the car for a while, (6 months to a year). In the mean time, order your new 335i. Then sell it or trade it in, just in time to pick up your brand new 335i. Problem solved. Just don't crash it while you have it.
