BMW OEM Tint

I was just at the dealer today (German) to drop off my car to have the RE SSK installed and I noticed a black E91 with window tinted. I asked the service rep if they have someone contracted out to tint their cars. He said that is how it came from the factory (option) and the glass itself is tinted, no film. Do you guys seen this in the states as an option on upcoming BMW's? Would be a nice option to have and not have to worry about aftermarket film tints. I will try to take a pic tomorrow when i pickup my car.

Only avaible in Europe. All wagons should come with privacy glass in the rear as far as I am concerned.

Just had my windows tinted in my E320 wagon, but is was a huge pain as so much of the car has to come apart to do it right. Rear door windows were pulled to make it easier and to make it look right.

In BC, tinting the front side windows by means of film is illegal. If the glass is tinted, then it is legal. Laws only state film.

Haven't seen it as an option but normally OEM tint is only dark on SUV's and wagons. I would like to see that pic and see how dark they have it. Is it dark enough like regular tinted windows? 20%, 35%?

Just received my 325xiT and the glass are definitely tinted. Can't tell how much % though but I am happy with the tint and decided not to put on any film...another $300 saved!

Maybe someone can reveal what's the % of factory tint?

Most factory tinted windows are 20% tint. The BMW facotry option would be just like SUVs and minivans.

did it have the front side windows tinted or just the windows behind the driver (rear and rear sides).

I would suspect that for the e91 I could see that being an option since it is a wagon. For a sedan or coupe I have never heard of that being offered as an option from the factory for US cars. To many state regulations on percentage of tinting and so on for cars. Some states do not allow the front sides to be tinted and rear windows range from 15% - 70% of light allowed through.

So for it to come from the factory with a tint option it would have to be legal in all 50 states so 70% on the rear windows. .

it only had the rear windows (side+back) tinted and it looked to me to be around 35%. The interior of the car is black so it even makes it look darker than it is.

Incorrect - we have it on my wife's 2004 X3-you have to ask for it at the dealer at the time you order (which of course many people don't do since they do not know its available). In our case the case was purchased as is off the lot, so that's how we found out about it.

...I wonder if the E92 can get tinted glass in the windows..... I kind of like the idea... having the glass itself be tinted, not a film

I'm guessing 35-37%....it looks like what I have, and I have 37% on all my sides, and 20% on the back window.

I just emailed BMW NA and asked specifically if the dark tint was an option even though it doesn't show up on any of the order guides.

Phoenix, the home of mandatory 35%+ tint.

The Euro option is called 'Privacy Glass' and in line with euro regs cannot include the front screen or driver/front passenger door windows.

I don't think the OEM tint is dark enough, I would guess about 40%.

Sun Protection Glass??

Hey E92 Euro Guys

The Euro E92 offers an option code 761 but it is called Sun Protection Glass. There is no mention of it being called 'Privacy Glass' on any options list so I am assuming its a darker tint option for ALL the windows. Am I right in my assumption? Anyone with any experience of this option?

"privacy glass" or "sun protection glass" as it`s now being called is 35% and only comes from the B pillars back, don`t understand why you guys in the states can`t order it ?

Thanks E90 Fleet. I wonder why they changed the name for this option just for the E92. I have seen it shown as Privacy Glass on every other model and that always mean't rear and rear side window tints. Oh well another BMW 'improvement' I guess

Thanks again
