BMW Assist?

Hi Everyone,

I am curious what your thoughts are on the BMW Assist option as being useful or not, good idea etc. Like everyone, I got it for the first year free, used it a couple of times, but now its up for renewal and Im not sure its worth the price. Is it necessary just for the stolen car recovery? Any input from other members?

I don't find it useful other than you have to have it for Bluetooth. Good question about the stolen vehicle recovery. I don't think many people are renewing it since they are offering it free for 4 years on the new models.

Along with the $250 increase with the premium package in which the additional 3yrs of assist was the only change.

Wonder if you can get your insurance premium lowered by having it.

Had to look in the manual but bluetooth still works after Assist expires. You just don't have the Teleservice. Thanks GoRomeo!

Yes! Because of the stolen vehicle recovery services. Ask your insurance agent anyway to see if they offer a discount. I got one thru USAA.

No problem.. yes my bluetooth works fine as always. I dont think the Telematics and bluetooth have anything to do with each other..

Also my BMW assist stopped working like 3 months ago but i supposed to have it till July which is when my year expired. I wondered i BMW can give some credit for 3 months or something in regards to the recall.. so I called and BMW assist headquarters and told me that i have to fax them the work order from the dealer and see they can do for me. So i will give them a shot.. I will keep you guys posted

I personally like it and will renew at the end of the year.

I use it for traffic, weather, restaurants and directions... All kinds of needed info, while driving around.

It's nice to know I have assistance when I need it, I have yet to purchase tickets for an event, but I'm sure I will in the near future.

I also got the lame "fax us the work order" answer from the Assist Customer Service advisor. I have done that along with a letter addressed to the head of North America Customer Assist. I have not received any contact or acknowledgement from them on this issue. Mine was non-functional for the first 4 months that I have had the car. The experience of getting credit or not for this outage will have a direct bearing on whether I choose to renew the service.

OK - an Update - I did finally receive a reply letter from BMWNA - they are extending my Assist Coverage for the 4 months that it was inactive. Apparently, the "Fax us the work order" wasn't so lame after all, it just took them 6 weeks to get around to contacting me with any sort of a reply. (snail mail, even though I had also provided e-mail and fax addresses)

Maybe they had to translate my letter of request to german first ?

My advice - by all means follow up on your issues - they may eventually provide satisfactory response.

I also just recieved a call from BMW Assist saying if I would like to continue my service. I have not used any of the traffic or directions, etc. So I selected not to enroll, which my current subscription ends next week.

A question I have is, the sales person told me that once it's turned off and if I decide to have it turned back on, that I would have to take it to the dealer to re-initialize the Harddrive? Does this sound correct?

If that's not the case, then can someone let their subscription run out and if ever the car gets stolen, call them back up and re-sign up. Hang up and wait like a couple of minutes then report the car stolen?
