Just Got 330i - Tint and other advice
Hey guys,
I just got last 330i SG, SP, manual, being shipped from Germany to eastern Canada. I was waiting for 335i but with 3.9% lease since Aug 1 on 2006 models and 335i being $3000-5000 more than 330i, I decided to get 330i (with some discount of course:rocks: ) Well, I also calculated that I will pay a little more for 328i than 330i when it comes in oct due to higher interest (6.9% or 7.4%) and no discounts at all (-+500) I think I made a good decision. The car is plenty fast for me BTW, since I am coming from 2003 passat 1.8t. Anyway, I have a few questions.: since I got sport pack should I go with tire/rim insurance? Is that neccessary or should I save some money and forget about it. I also want to tint the car 35%, should I let the dealer do it for $499 or look elsewhere (in Toronto area) Please give me some other shop recommendations. Moreover, should I get a clear bra or it is not very neccessary (BTW I don't like the way clear bra looks on SG - highly visible) Please give me some advice. Can't wait to get behind the bimmer's wheel.:rocks: |

Congrats on the new car... you'll love it. :rocks:
The tire/wheel insurance is your own call. A lot of people on here went with it, and a lot did not. I'm one that did not. I'm betting on the odds that I will not have a flat. Plus, the insurance DOES NOT cover tires/wheels other then ones purchased at a BMW dealership. So if you slap on some aftermarket rims and some rubber from Tire-Rack; you're SOL if you get a flat. As for the tint; go elsewhere. $499 is crazy. I'm sure you can find it elsewhere for $250-300. You leased the car right? If so, I'd say pass on the clear-bra. It's an investment that you'll get nothing back from once the lease is over. I think it's more directed towards those of us who've purchased the car and plan to keep it for 4+ years.

I also bought a 330i on the weekend and I'll be picking it up on Saturday
My uncle works for Car Magic (7537 Woodbine Avenue). I will be seeing him on the weekend and I'm going to ask him how much tinting would be. I could also get a quote for you. |

Tint cost is totally a function of what actual tint material you get and what you want to get out of your tint...heat rejection, privacy, etc...cheap tint jobs start in the mid $100 range and high end tint can cost up to $600 for top of the line Huper Optik Drei.

As for tint, as greginaz1 said, the price depends on the film they use. Some are more expensive than others. Is your $499 price USD or CAD? If it is Canadian, then it's still pricey but about the going rate for the more expensive tints.

Yes, go with ceremic tints, thats what i have and it is amazing, mine is Formula 1 - Pinnacle series 35%. Stay away from metalic tints, had it for my previous e46 and you will lose radio reception for both keyless and AM.
I suggest you use ceremic since you have Nav. Ceremic cost a bit more compared to metalic tints. Tom

I don't know about nav (antenna is in shark fin), but apparently metallic tint causes problems with CA and AM reception for some people but not others: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3155
FWIW, I have ceramic (FormulaONE Pinnacle 35% like myfirstbimmer) and have no problems at all with nav, CA, or radio reception.
