Car Impounded...
...in California
just got a call from a friend, 10:00 AM. he says Him: "Dude my car just got impounded!" The first thing that pops in my head is he was racing someone and got f*cked by a cop. He drives a '94 civic coupe with a '99 LS block Vtech head and some huge turbo (not too good with Honda's that's as much as I know about the car, and that it's f*ckin quick) Me : "WTF did you do?!" Him: "Nothing I was driving to work and there was 4 cop cars parked and when I passed by I was doing like 35 (35mph zone). one of the cops hauls ass to catch up to me. I see the cop coming so I pulled over and turned off the car." Me: "...and they popped your hood?" ![]() Him: "no, appearantly your license expires when I turned 20... so they said they had to impound my car for 30 days" Me: "so what was the reason they pulled you over?" Him: "She said I was driving a little fast" Me: "damn that sucks..." Him: "Idk how I'm going to pay for this, I'm so broke right now..." Me: "well at least they didn't pop your hood and ticket you for all your illegal parts..." My question is. how much does a 30 day impound usually cost? and what kind of fine is he looking at? He didn't get any speeding ticket or anything they took his car for having an expired license. can he do anything because he was wrongfully pulled over? Advice please?...

+1. I think you'll find it's also like $50 a day storage fee.

yeah your friend is fucked. i was out of town and a let a friend of mine drive my car.
he got pulled over 2 hours after dropping me off at the airport for smoking a BONG while driving my car in downtown on a Friday night. He also had 2 chicks with him and they had open containers, drinking beers and shit. He couldn't get the car out till i came back, because it was registered on my name. $790 for 1 week. And that was 12 years ago, so i'm pretty sure it's even more right now.

Nobody has their own shit to talk about on Bimmerpost. Everything is "What cars do your parents or friends have?" "My friend did [insert stupidity here]" "My parents are buying an apartment building...." It's so fucking ridiculous that so many people have questions pertaining to other people. This is like the MTV of car forums.

turns out, $65 a day for 30 days is the impound plus, whatever the fine is...

Not a Lawyer, but he might want to get a lawyer.
Here is my thought, obviously the only reason the car got impounded is they discovered his license was not valid anymore, it is that every 4 yr renewal thing. The reason they found that out is because they claimed he was going too fast, however, they did not write ticket for that. So a good lawyer can get the invalid license tossed on the grounds they did not have proof of him being over the speed limit and since that would be tossed at the time then impound was also illegal. But the first thing he better do ASAP is get the license fixed. A lawyer will most likely cost less then the car being impounded for a month. If he finds a really nasty lawyer he could get him money for lost time and the lack of the use of his car as well. It sounds like the police profiled him and the easy thing was the invalid license, if they did not find that the next thing was to open the hood that is for sure. |

Why is everyone so concerned about popping the hood? Does your friend haul drugs in the washer fluid reservoir? What is so illegal about what's under his hood?

If the cop who pulled you over is a compete jackass, he will mark the ticket that those mods are "non-correctable", and you will end up with even bigger fine.

![]() ._________________________ |.....Overnight.....................| || |........Honda Crack...............||'|";,___. |_..._...____________======||_|_|...,] "(@)'(@)""'''''''''''''"'''"**|(@)(@)*****"(@) well its an illegal motor for one. If you do an engine swap the car needs to be B.A.R. 'd in California. and the car has a huge turbo in it. the car doesn't legally pass smog. so here in So*Cal a car can get crushed if it has racing parts or you are caught racing. it all comes down to the police... ![]() Quote:
