hi just wanna know what is the gas breath tank use for? for breath?

i currently have quad exhaust on my 325i.and the extend pipe is go right under the gas breath tank.now,i used some 1500degree resist heat reflect tape to tape on the tank.do u guy think any problem for that?i think the extend pipe will not more than 100 degree.wish u guys can help!

Number 5 is actually a bolt (circled numbers get referred to on the right), I'm guessing you actually mean number 1. It stores the gasoline fumes created by evaporation in the tank, so that they don't escape to atmosphere.

It stores the fumes created by the gasoline. Its an emmissions thing. Similar to the HEALY system required in all gas stations now to retrieve all the fumes from the gasoline.

Every modern car has this same thing. Removing it will cause a check engine light.
